Alrite guys,

Been after a GT for too long now, I'm liking the look of DKnight's GT conversion but I'm not sure about insuring it. Is it kcomplicated to do, and more importantly, is it more expensive? I'm 18 on a provisional with no ncb or anything. I have had quotes of about £750 fully comp with the policy in my parents name, but that is on a 'real' Gt. Any tips would be appreciated!

Notify DVLA of new engine number (and size if your car isn't a 1272cc already).

When the insurance say any mods you just say "Replacement engine fitted in place of one that failed. It's a 1272cc 75hp unit"

price for me on a gt was 1000, then when i said it was an engine conversion it went up to 1700.

Dont do what angelus/rich? Get a conversion? Or insure it? I want a gt it seems to be the easiest way cos all the 'real' gt's are a bit out of budget or just too far away.

Haha quality i just ran a quote on confused.com, its cheaper toi insure it fully comp than it is to do it tpft!! I'm guessing this is due to a voluntary excess?

punx666 is right when he says it's more to insure a conversion than a proper GT. Most of the time so much more to insure it that it's not worth bothering converting but putting the extra insurance money into getting the proper one.

conversions aren't cheap to insure therefore just don't declare it.

I suppose - until i get crashed into and discover my policy is void because i didnt notify them of the true spec of the car.

I was gona take that route but it doesnt seem worth it - paying out cash for the car and more money on insurance, only to discover i won't get a penny back from either in the event of a write off.
