Comments: Bought the car about 7 months ago for £800 from an old lady. When I got it there was rust on the rear panels, but I got that sorted. Only just got a job so haven't been able to do much to it. What I have done has taken some serious saving... The majority of my cash was spent on my £1300 insurance bill...

I had doubts about doing my car up yesterday after attending my first meet. I joined the guys from Section-5/DemonVW at the Sage/Baltic in newcastle and saw their cars. In particular I was speaking to a guy with a Blue Mk3. We got talking whilst I was fixing my window, which had popped out of the rails for over 100 miles... and I found out he ended up spending over £3,000 on getting his car to look like it does.

I began thinking, is it really worth spending £3,000 on this car when I could sell up and get about another £500/600 and buy a more powerful car for £3,500... I was seriously contemplating leaving my car as standard and not doing anything to it, but I came to my senses... After my car passes my MOT in december, and I pay for the tax, I'm gonna begin saving up to do my car up.

I even made up a semi plan of action.

In the first year, I will have 1 years no claims on a 1 litre polo, So insurance won't be too much, already had quotes for about £700, and I'm sure it'd be cheaper if I was on the phone and used ClubPolo discounts. So I've found out I'll have about £600 more to spend next year. Also I'll be getting a steady income now from work, not much but about another £130 a fortnight. This means I should be able to afford a fair amount of new parts. The first series of things I want to do is lower it, on coil overs probably. Get some 14's or 15's on it. Perhaps a new exhaust, etc, and maybe a chip from the company on here who's name I can't spell :p

The in a couple of years when my insurance is cheaper, and I have a better job, I'll be investing in a new engine for the car. By then there should hopefully be some cheap engines for the car and I'll have a nice amount of money to be able to buy it.

But to some it up, In the new year my car WILL be getting:

Lowered, probably about 60-80.

Alloys, nothing too expensive, but it'll look better than my rusted, buckled steelies.

Exhaust, probably from this site.

Brakes, bigger and better.

and other random stuff...
