My MOT is due next month, so I'm just in the process of preparing the car.

Currently I have a 4 point harness for the driver, a standard front passenger seatbelt and the rear seat passenger also has a seatbelt. There are no belts for the midle rear seat passenger and drivers side rear passenger due to the harness and where it's mounted.

My intention was to completely remove the rear seat and seatbelt (due to the lack of seatbelts and the drivers seat no longer being able to tilt forward), and leave the front configuration as was. Is this OK to do for the MOT.

Acceptable Belts are

Lap belt, Disabled person's belts, child restraint, 3-point belt (static or inertia reel.)

I guess that semi answers my question, but I'm sure the likes of pinches and a few others have been able to sit an MOT with a 4 point harness?

it may depend on the discression of the MOT tester. but if there is s seat fitted there needs to be a seat belt, so its easiest just to remove the rear seats

i haven't had any problems with mine. i usually take mine out and get given an advisory notice saying "no rear seats fitted therefore belts not required" or something, although last time i forgot to take the seats out and the guy said i should have taken them out but he didnt fail me for it, just gave me the above advisory sheet probably as a disclaimer for themselves

It used to be illegal to have harnesses in a car. The law requied a belt that could be done up with one hand. I've never seen it written though, and only knew this because a Chief Constable was on the radio (years ago) saying that he'd never prosecute anyone for using harnesses and he wished all cars had rollcages so that his officers didn't have to deal with dead bodies after smashes. Dave Walker in CCC used to comment on them regularly too. I looked recently and couldn't find anything against them and even Road Rallying has allowed their use so it must be OK now.

Mine just utilises a buckle like a standard seatbelt. I've no problems releasing it with one hand, though ultimately I'll have to see what the tester says.

i used to have that type. i dont see any problem aslong as you have no rear seats in. although i would probably take out the rear seat belts too.
