How many of you guys and girls have got points on your driving license? How do you feel about it? I got 6 points on mine after having it for 22 months, and had it revoked. I then had to apply for a new provisional license, pass my theory test again, and then begun the wait for a new practical test. Luckily I got through all that and now I'm back on the road...but I've still got 6 points on my license.

That means I've got no 'No Claims Bonus', I've had my license for 2 months and I've got 6 points, meaning insurance on my Polo 16v is costing me £1800.

What do you think?

I suppose you're paying the price for your offences, but it seems a touch harsh to me. If you've redone your test and eveything i'd have thought they'd wipe the slate clean?

How did you get your 6 points? How old are you? Did you get all 6 points after 22 months or some earlier?

End of the day, it's the law and there's pretty much nowt you can do about it.

I myself have 6 points, which will be down to 0 in a year. And i'm paying £500 fully comp on a 2.8 VR6. But i'm 28!

there were two SP30 offences. one was when i got my first fast car and i was younger and stupider. 55mph in a 30mph zone, with a police car behind me. the second was a 36.84mph in a 30mph zone, 100yards from my driveway on a friday night at 11.30pm, empty dry road, on the way home from work cos i needed a poo.

In my opinion, it should be poeple who have accidents who should pay higher insurance, not those who demonstrate the ability to control a car at higher speeds.

Don't know about you, but I have never contemplated attempting to multiply the speed limit to my own personal preference.

i had 7 points on my license when i was 17 for driving with no license or insurance ( i was driving my car on a provisional with no plates, insurance obvs wasnt valid) a lady crashed into me at a roundabout near college and i got stung for 7 points n 300 quid fine.

Points came off start of last month when i got the g40, however I've managed to get another 3 i think as i got clocked doing 58 in a 40, early morning no traffic and it was a cheeky hidden camera under a bridge on a leading road up to a motorway.

I'm 20, i was driving for just under 2 years before my ban. I've been on a circuit a few times in germany so i do fancy my chances of being a good driver.

When did you get the first 3 points though? You got the next 3 just before you hit the 2 year mark.

To be honest, £1800 for a previously banned driver at the age of 20, with 6 points on a 16v Polo sounds about right to me.

Yes, I was speeding, so I was liable to be caught. However, I don't look on that as over high given the circumstances (light traffic, all moving fast, I was in the middle lane), the fact I was driving in full RoSPA system, in a car that can quite safely and stabely travel at much higher speeds than that. Were it a police patrol, they'd have most likely turned a blind eye so long as I was moving with traffic and not being a nob.

By my reckonning, they were flashing about 10 cars a minute (all outside 2 lanes traffic). That's £700 a minute, a little over £42k per hour. Nice little money maker there Mr Brown.

It's also worthy of note that 70mph was plucked out of the air in the 1960's by an old lady who wasn't a car driver, as a good figure to drive at to save fuel. According to the book, my car will be in the mid-40mpgs at 80mph (when it is most economic). Yeah, probably sounds a little low to a polo driver, but it's a V6, and actually better on fuel than my Mk2 on a motorway.

I got 6 points in 21 months of passing,

3 points 5 months after for 36 in a 30 by a white camera van just 2 days after buying a new car and not being used to it's speed.

3 points at 21 months for a slightly dodgy tyre. I know for a fact 5 years ago a policeman wouldn't contemplate making someone lose their liscence and about 400 pounds and 3 months of driving for such a trivial offence.

I think you underestimate the local plod 5 years ago. they still had little man syndrome even then!

I'd sell the car and buy something a bit slower and therefore cheaper on the insurance.

I cant see why some people pay more per year on insurance than what the cars worth, not saying you are but some of the 16v/g40 and even gt owners are. a cars not everything.

My cars are both only worth somewhere in the region of the annual premium.

if i were a copper id have let you off if you were going 3.84mph over the limit (your allowed 10%) just so you didnt soil your car :)

Just to make you feel better were you aware that as you now have 6 points on your license you are only allowed 1 point on your new license within 2 years and it is lost.

They don't alow you to have another 6 points to play with the 1st conviction will see your license revoked again.

A friend of mine has 8 points on his license which were carried over from his provisional, he is not allowed any points until either the 2 year probation period has passed or the 8 points have been spent (3 years from date of offence).

To be honest he got pretty much what he deserved as he was caught driving without insurance or a license.

huh u stil had the 6points!!! they should have been droped!!!!

i got 3points and that WAS entrapment!!! but i wa far to lazzy to fight it! my insurance company said "so what" to me wen i told them 2 :) and said "that there is something stupid like 85% of all moterists have atleast 3 points! i cudnt stop laffing wen they said that!

(they just wernt happy that i rote off 3 cars in under a year..1st my fault.2nd some other wanks fault need i wa blamed as i wa only 18. 3rd came round a bend way slow to find a artic infront not moving so i broke hard and my vtr spun like a spiders web lol:( )

oh and my inc company are charging my 300 full comp need no thats not a typo!!! lol

I've got 3 points on a provisional ! for doin 35 in a 30 zone lol and i was driving alone :) and i think we all deserve what ever fine we get cause rules r there for a reason ! I've just got a polo saloon and its m.o.td and ready for the road but its not going anywhere til I've past that test! after whatin that thing on tv last nite bout that young girl who was killed by that guy with no licence iv decided its time to start been more responsable :)

Speed camera's are only helping insurence companys rip us off

You could drive passed a speed camera drunk in a un-taxed, un-insured, un-roadworthy car and so long as your under the speed limit you would be OK

If the money made from speed camera's was been spent on Traffic Police Car's and Officers to man them i would be OK with them........as far as i've seen they only fund more camera's

When I go past speed cameras my eyes are basically fixed on the speedo to make sure I don't get flashed.

I got clocked doing 62 in a 30 and got let off! Was in my fist two weeks of drivin so the copper took sypathy that i would loose my licence so just gave me a massive lecture and that was it!

That was 5 years ago and I've never been done for speeding since. Clean licence means cheeap insurance. I think once you've been done you should know what not to do!

Got no sypathy for people who get more than 3 point really, we all know what the speed limits are!
