no there isnt, the only time you're allows to drive a normal car on the road without an MOT is if you are driving to an MOT station and the car has been booked in in advance.

MOT. Cars and motorcycles MUST normally pass an MOT test three years from the date of the first registration and every year after that. You MUST NOT drive a vehicle without an MOT certificate, when it should have one. Driving an unroadworthy vehicle may invalidate your insurance. Exceptionally, you may drive to a pre-arranged test appointment or to a garage for repairs required for the test.

No, but you can take it up to a month early and they will date it as if you'd done it on the day of expiry. I had mine done last Friday, but its not due until the 21st, and the new MOT expires 21st November 2007.

If you get pulled over by the filth it will now show that your MOT has expired on the checks they do. Worst case is you could be prosecuted for no MOT.

Not sure how many courts pursue the matter though.

If you use the old "its booked in for its Mot" It not unusual for some cops to actually check.

There used to be a separate offence for driving without insurance, licence, etc, but there is now a general offence of 'driving without documents'. There are several punishments available, fines, points/ban, and you can now have your car confiscated and crushed. This issue is a high priority one, and therefore the courts will pursue the matter if reported by the police.
