Plans for coilovers just went down the drain...

Featured Replies

Was thinking about getting a set of coilovers in the new year, however i just had a word with my insurance company...

They won't do it, full stop! how shit is that? They said if i wanted to go through with it anyway they could only refer me to another company. Apparently they had a word with some other insurers and the best they could quote me was £2600!!!

All i can say is f*ck that! As if am not already getting raped at £1600!

Dave ;)

I guess it might just depend on how much detail you go into, I mean did you say they were coilovers, or springs on a 80mm drop with uprated dampers? both are technically the same thing, so you wouldnt be fiddling the insurance unless they asked for every last detail.

by definiation, normal suspension with a coil over a damper is a coilover, so you could argue that polos are fitted with coilovers as standard.

coilovers refer to Coil Over Oil though :)

or am i wrong ?? :S

Your's is dropped and you are with quinn aint you?

How much did they bump your premium up?

Can't you just tell them it's lowered and you dont know how much by?

Then it's up to the guy on the other end to put down... if he puts it down as 40mm that's their fault??

I always declare my mods, Don't get me wrong. but surely that's ok?

yeah thats what I'm meaning, some insurance companies allow you to be vague, like I've declared that my GT has "uprated brakes", they never asked how I'd uprated them, but my uprating includes:-

1) removing the mk3 master cylinder and servo and fitting a mk2 master cylinder

2) removing the rear brake compensator

3) fitting smaller rear slave cylinders

4) fitting modified peugot/citroen 266 x 20mm brake disks

5) VW II vented calipers

6) spacers for mounting the calipers.

and I've got all my mods covered on my GT in less than 20 words now, including the crystal headlights

...having said that some insurance companies are very specific and want every mod declaring individually, but in the event of a payout, that would be beneficial and they cant argue with exactly what they are covering.
