Rang up last night to try barter it down some more, and i was told his NCB only applies to one vehicle, the Focus hes driving at the moment.

SO my quote of £717 fully comp for me, me mum and me daddy on a standard GT becomes £2021 in me own name.

Damn. Looks like i won't be getting a GT for my first car after all! A standard 1.3 cl is only £1400 though, thats a bit better.

some comapnies will match a NCB for a second car, but someone else may be able to tell you shich companies work like this

year 3/4 is where you notice the difference when you can get insured (4yrs ncb) on a G40 where mr 'i was a named driver' are paying 800 to get their own policy

Yeh defo get a cheap car to insure in your own name. I didnt do that for ages, always been 2nd driver. Just turned 22 and my car insurance on a 1.4L is £711 TPFT with 0 no claims.

do not believe the named drivers can get their own claims bollocks with direct line etc, it only works with them, and it works out as for every 4 years with their NCB shit it works out to the eqivalent of 1 year with every other company, so u have to be with direct like for 4 years with out a claim before you can move on to another company and have 1yrs NCB

Well i kinda don't want a 1043cc cos i can imagine it being rather slow, so a 1.3cl or genesis is what i'm after. £1400 is the best quote so far, gona see if i can beat it over the phone cos i heard confused bump up the price slightly online?

But yeah i think having the NCB is gona be a bonus. Oh i forgot to mention that i don't have my full licence so £1400 isnt bad on a 1.3 when I'm not a fully qualified driver yet! I reckon i'll do pass plus too, and my premium should go down. So then i can insure alloys on it, and it will hopefully go no higher than the original £1400.

Out of interest, would alloys be a cheaper mod to insure than a 40/40 drop?

Just get a 1 litre. They're easier on the insurance, quick enough so long as you're not going to be doing a lot of motorway, and dirt cheap to run.

So long as we're not talking bling-tastic alloys, they shouldn't make much difference.

dont you think you would better off starting in a 1.0ltr?? your an unqualified and inexperienced driver, and you say you dont want a slow car?? Thats how accidents happen! Start from the bottom and work your way up.

I dunno i am inexperienced in road driving its true, but its a different story on the kart track. Done an hour long endurance race not so long ago, came 2nd out of 40 good drivers.

Still perhaps a 1l will teach me to appreciate the GT when i get it. Will alloys be cheaper to insure than lowering springs? I don't want it to look like a sh*tter thats all, if i can't go fast then i want to go slowly looking good lol.

Just a note of caution on that one, a couple of years ago round this way, there was a lad who was good in karts, on the day he passed his test, he misjudged a corner, his skill, the car, whatever and went straight in a ditch. I can't remember the details, but I seem to remember neither him, or his g.f who was in the car with him survived.

Alloys shouldn't make a big difference (my coupe's make no difference at all), lowerring might, but it depends on the insurer.
