Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum, as I have just bought a 1998 VW Polo. I like the car alot, having never owned a VW before I am enjoying the experience. I am from the US, so one does not hear that much about VW's there really. It is a 1998 16V with Open Air, a nice car. Cheap to buy, but I have been pouring money into it, today I had to have a throttle body put on....230 pounds just for the part!

Anyway, I am thinking of doing some shopping around for some replacement parts, and cannot find a source for VW parts numbers. Is there any way to access VW part numbers?

Out of interest though, why are you having to replace the throttle body itself?

Thank you for the link as well, that is helpful. However, if anyone knows how to get a catalogue or online resource for the part numbers, I would be grateful.

I had to replace the throttle body because it had a fault, the car started very rough. It seems to be running well now.

I will get some pics up soon....

A few people on here have access to ETKA, which is the software used to find part numbers of VAG vehicles.

There are versions of it available online, but it's probably easier to make a request for the part number on here.

Did you try cleaning out the throttle housing at all? I recently did this to mine and it's been running alot smoother since then.

Thanks for the tip, I will watch for the versions, lol, as needed.

The garage did clean out the throttle body, and it helped a little for a brief time, but not much, and just got worse and worse. They said it had a diagnostic fault, and they could clean it up any more than they had. It was hard to start, so I figured I would rather fix in than screw up my starter/battery/etc....and then have to buy another one anyway....but I wish it could have been cleaned up. Damned expensive part!

The car is in pretty good shape overall, although it needs some body work at some point.
