Simple mods insurance eg side repeaters

Featured Replies

Was just wondering, i know youre supposed to declare every mod 'cause if you crash then they'll do anything to wriggle out of paying, but is it expensive to declare simple mods? For example clear indicators, side repeaters, and say tinted rear lights, maybe a de-badged grille - would they charge a more for these kinda things?

Only thinking cos i'm 18 and i'll get raped for lowering a mk3 on ats classics or whatever so i was working out mods that are fairly cheap to do and insure, but I'm not gona do the whole not declaring it thing cos if i crashed id be fkked.

If i only did one eg rear lights i would say they cracked and the nice ones were all i could find to replace them, but they arent gona believe all my lights just happened to crack at the same time as the grill needing replacing...

They're all different so call your insurance company and ask them!

Best thing is to ring them

Stuff like clear indicators and that sort of thing would i presume come under apperance, you have to think if you are changing the apperance then the car is going to get more attention from others for example its more likely to be nicked.

So some will be bothered but on the other hand i think most insurance groups will be more bothered about bodykits

I can't complain at my insurer cos i have all mods declared for no extra cost and can have as many as i want just not a roll cage.

Like said above you don't know till u try

I'm with liverpoolvictoria and i rang them TODAY and they wanted an extra £160 for unlimited lowering & alloys. i'm 18, no NCB, TPFT on a MK3 GT. brings my insurance to around £1300. not totally evil.

ring them and be nice.

check 'hic' out. you can do whatever you want cosmetically and your allowed 10bhp for free...

HIC only do 19yrs and over i believe. Liverpool victoria seem pretty good quote-wise - £1500 fully comp on a GT. ON confused the best quote i got was £2200!! Its worse though cos my mum wants to be insured on it, and she's got 2 sp30's haha.

LIVERPOOL VICTORIA ARE ANTI-MODIFICATIONS

trust me they are evil and sneaky

Haha really? What abouit £160 for alloys and lowering then?

quinn-direct for the win. no charege for lowering or alloys for meeeeeeee

I'm with elephant, and you simply tick boxes that say

Lights,

lowered <50mm

lowered >50mm

extra bodywork

etc etc, so if you say yeas i have non standard lights, it will therefore mean all your lights.

Mines been quite cheap considering nothing is standard, £400 fully comp, and that was when i was 21 wiv points etc

Elephant will not insure you if your car is lowered more than 50mm. I know as i had to change from them.

So i guess ticking the lowered >50mm box is really the 'cancel my insurance cos you can't handle the lowerage' box then...
