Hi guys.....first off all..............

MERRY BLINKING CHRISTMAS AND A WHOPPING NEW YEAR TO ALL.....

Now that that is out of the way lol....lets get to bussiness.....Ill try to explain myself as best as i can.......

My car was fine........had it stopped for a while...went to start it up.......IT JUST WONT START even though motor turns well....

Checked that there is no spark at the spark plug wires.......went down to the electrical coil and checked that there is no spark coming out of the electrical coil itself...

I've changed the the coil with one that is working ........still nothing.......also changed the ECU as well and the 2 relays and still no spark......Any suggestions on what it might be ???? By the way....its a Polo G40 91 Model.

tried jump starting it?? i know it sounds simply but basic thing to start with?

I even did better......put in my other cars battery which is stronger than the g40 and still no spark.....I dont get any spark at the coil.......therefore....no spark will go to the spark plugs......therefore it just wont start......lol...in the end i think it might just come down to something really simple.....yet its boggling my brain (at least whats left of my brain....lol)

i had a problem like this with 2 cars, when i enquired about solution with a couple of people, said either the battery wasnt charging due to the alternator or starter motor needed to be changed?

I'm not an expert on these things, i hope someone else who reads this can elighten you more than i can!

Give a stupid question but, have you checked your fuses? Otherwise possible relay fault.

Do G's have a condensor as such?

I have checked the fuses that are under the hood by the windshield.....and they are all fine.....as for the relays there are 2 by the ECU. I changed them with another G40 that is working fine and still no current comes out of the Coil....I then changed the ECU with another that is working fine and still nothing....I put my ECU and Coil + relays into my friends G40 and it fired up first time no problem.....

I tested the electrical cable that powers up the coil with a multimeter (i think that is what its called in english) and when i turn the ignition on inside the car it does read more or less 11.82 volts. Therefore i conclude that when starting the car, power does get to the coil......problem is that no spark comes out of the coil to the distruibuitor to be able to fire the spark plugs....and as i said earlier....my coil is working fine on my friends G40.....dam......lol

well the distributor is known for breaking on G40's

if you remove the connector from the side of the distributor and short out the pins that are labelled 0 and - on the cable, and you get a spark at the king lead of the coil, then the distributor is knackered.

U are right. But i think before we can get a spark at the distibuitor there has to be spark coming straight out at the coil when turning the ignition key.....

no, just leave the ignition turned on without trying to start the car. you arnt trying to get the engine to run, its just how to test for a broken distributor

UPDATE

Just tested out the cable like you said optima21.....I dont get no spark..... I also tested the cable on my friends car which is the same as mine and did exactly the same thing....Therefore distribuitor is ok then....

Just want to thank everyone for their help....Just managed to figure out what was wrong with my G40.....Problem was a connector out on the alarm....(broken circuit)....

Hi there, i have a similar problem with my polo GT, as was driving and it just stopped now i cannot get a spark at the coil, while having changed lots of components.

i was wondering, does your alarm have an imobiliser as my car has an alarm but as but no imobiliser as far as I'm aware, and if it doesnt, could you please let me know where the loose wire was?

this problem is driving me crazy as i dont want to chuck any more money at it randomly and i her miss her so!

your help would be greatly appreciated!
