Insurance on a G40 conversion.

Featured Replies

:retard:

I had the G40 on temporary cover for when I picked it up and yesterday swapped my policy from the lupo to the Polo. When I gave them the details of the car, make and model they gave me a price. before I told them it was a G40 conversion. When I gave them the details of the engine, power output and other mods they said the price would not change as the car was still a 1.3 Its with Adrian Flux / Ensign.

Has anyone else had this. I double checked with them to be sure and they said this was definatly right. so it's £280 per year for the G40 now. I thought it was cheap before when I was only paying £320. Or were they trying to screw me over to pay more for the original car.

I'm 27 now and this car is on a second policy with no no claims. I get my first year in feb.

Althoug I'm assuming I get some sort of discount as I have 3 years on my other policy with them for the lupo.

I've heard of companies doing this before, I remember having a conversation with Steve Millo years ago and his GT with a G40 conversion was insured for less than a G40 because it used to be a GT.

It's probably fine, but if it's not a like for like policy if your car was stolen they'd probably try and give you a standard saloon in return. Of course, that's regardless of whether you're paying 1.3 SPI rates or G40 rates on your conversion.

Thing is as long as you've told them it's a conversion you're not hiding anything, and you should be road legal, so I wouldn't worry.

I'm paying the same as a factory G40 on mine though.

Has any one been insured on a G40 at the age of 18, if so, how much were they paying?

Generally they won't insure you at 18. Tell you to come back at 19. Even if they did quote you it'd be the polite way of saying 'we don't want to insure you' kind of quote.

they must think I'm 18 then the amount i pay. scum bags.

adrian flux were a pile of shit as far as I'm concerned.

i pay 620 quid for 3rd party fire and theft. in my mothers name. I'm 22, 23 in 1 month today never had any claims but they want silly money to start my own policy. it would be cheaper to have no insurance the fine is cheaper than what i pay.

Yes, but the cost of maiming someone in an accident and having to pay for life is still a lot less than you pay.

I was playing around on confused.com and put in the details of dan's G40. Quotes were coming back at 8 and 9 grand. 30 mins later some bloke phoned asking for me and offered me insurance for 5k, I told him I was just playing around and getting quotes and felt rather embarassed by the whole situation! lol

yes, my cover starts the 20th of this month (january) and my insurance is 2.5k, (650 deposit then 10 monthly payments of 210). Evryone calls me mad, but fuck it, I worked for the car, to get it to where it is now, and will work for the insurance money aswell.

I was about to say my mate was paying a shocking price for his G40 at 18, £1900 with one years NCB but fuch me, 2 n a half grand!

Would it be cheaper going to somebody like adrian flux with a G40 converted CL than say an origional G40. I'll be doing this in a couple of months 20 with a years NCB.

I had all the paper work through and they have insured it as a G40 so it looks like they were trying to get more out of me for the CL than it's worth rather than the g40 being much cheaper because it's a conversion.

I see taa, does the V5 not state that its a Polo CL but the engine code will be PY?

that is correct, but as far as adrian flux / ensign are concerned it's a g40.

I had the G40 van insured for 2K with everything declared but TPTF, was costing me £400 a year.....that was with no no claims as it was being used on my other car.
