I'm going to buy some 3-point harnesses (not because I need them but because my seats make them necessary). Where are they usually mounted to on the bottom? Subframe?

I believe they are mounted to the rear seat belt lower bolt holes. Pull up your rear seat and take a look. Failing that get a rear strut brace and attach them to that. I take it you aernt going to carry rear passengers?

rear point is usually rear belt lower point and either side of seat on original belt mounts

When I mounted my 4 point harness, I used the lower seatbelt mounting point on the drivers side sill, The passenger side seat belt buckle bolt provided the other fastening point for the lap part of the belt, then I bolted the shoulder straps to where the rear passenger seat belt would mount. It passed an MOT like that, but its advisable to remove the rear seats.

You shouldn't really use harnesses without a rollcage. You can't move out of the way when the roof caves in. I know you probably don't intend rolling your car, but fate doesn't care what you think about these things. Don't trust a strut brace either. They aren't designed to resist bending in the middle and you get very heavy in a crash. Make sure the holes in the floor are far enough back to keep the harness at less than 45 degree to the floor pan as they will compress your spine in an impact if they are too vertical. If you do mount them in the floor, it might be better to get some decent load spreading plates welded in further back.

Yeh I know all this, and thats why we have CG-Locks for my dads Impreza. I have chosen to take the risk due to the fact that it isn't used often, never fast, never in motorsport etc. I know it only takes one idiot to hit you in the wrong place though

should be fine too use all the standard anchorage points, i mean if a normal seat belt is ok then i dont see why harnesses arent. just watch the angle of the shoulder straps as mentioned above.

If anyone has mounted to a drivers side seat though, you can't get to the left anchorage point because of the standard seat frame on a mk3. It completly blocks any attempt to get to the nut!

I know karl on cams account up there said about the passenger side...which was fine when i did it, but what about the drivers side mount?

when i removed my original seats i noticed that the original buckle is actually fitted to the subframe. so which anchorage point do you use to attach the left side driver waist strap and right side passenger strap.

can anyone help????
