I'm trying to make a custom induction kit for my Polo (similar to this.pretty big pic so i will only put a link http://www.autotuningrs.sk/obraz/naseprace...20N%20sanie.jpg )

Car is a 1l polo 6n and my question is where is the mass air sensor located on the stock filter and do you have any advice on how to connect it to the new air filter?

besides that any other advice are welcome.this is my first car and my automotive knowledge is still limited but i'm learning

you dont need the airmass sensor. just chcuk all the standard piping away andmake whateva u want :)

ide be abit iffy with placing your filter behinf the grill as of weather ect, but should be ok :)

I'm not sure about the air mass sensor being 'not needed', on the mk3 golf range I think it is there is a common fault with the air mass sensor not working properley and causing the engine to all sorts of things because it isn't wokring so I wouldn't like to say it isn't needed. Also not trying to knock your work but is there really much point of an induction kit on a 1.0l? Saying that I've got some plans for my 1.4 but there top secret .

What about on the mk3 GT as there MPi, do they have a air mass sensor?

i know there isn't much point in modding the 1l but it won't stay 1l forever ;)as my skills get better (that is when i stop hurting myself ^^) i'll try an engine swap(am drooling on a g40 engine right now)

So basically what i'm doing here is to avoid throwing too much money in parts that will be lost if i do the swap,i've read about golf mk3 injectors on the forums so i'll have a look at that too

also i'm a young gun and young guns+fast car = wrecked car so again the "slowish" engine serves his purpose as a learning engine.

I can't fault you there mate, I started with a 1.1 fiesta! Learnt alot from working on it though and got me polo now, only ahd it for less than a month though lol.

hi again.another quick question but i didn't want to create another thread

when i removed the airfilter box i came across two tubes.one about 2cm in diameter on the left(when facing the car) and one smaller on the right.can someone tell me what they are?

The thicker one i believe is the crankcase breather hose, not sure about the right one, it might come from the charcoal canister to put petrol vapours into the throttle body, both serve to minimise emissions.

i did notice smoke coming out of the thicker one if that helps

i'm looking at doing the exact same thing on my polo, i tried it a while ago by just putting a small filter on the breather hose, i don't know if this was the right thing to do, or to somehow lead it into the induction pipe?

your induction kit looks neat man, really need your help how did you fit the pipe on top of the carb ? the top of the carb is like 5 inches ? and the kn air filter i got is about 3 and half inches. cheers mate

Is it single point injection or multi point injection? Also the larger of the 2 pipes is the crank breather and yer you can just put a little filter on it. Or you can just mod it into your new system somewhere. As for the small one not sure maybe a vacuum or something just blank that one of. Also 6ns dont have a maf because they work of a manifold pressure sensor that is located in the left hand side of the inlet manifold. Hope this has help you buddy. Dan

It is said the best design for intake is the round or oval air filter located just above the TB (as original) as the air is drawn equally so no maldistribution occurs at high loads while the 90 dg design favors the air flow to enter the manifold tagentially resulting in maldistribution.

the tube's lenght also has a pretty big surface inside the engine bay and is located in the vecinity of the exhaust manifold wich makes me wonder how 'cold' is actually the intake . The original intake is a bit shorter and breathes somewhere on the left wing outside the engine bay as well.

The "RAM efect" is also very small or not a all as the ECU will always prepare the mixture strictly following the 'recipe'. The ECU is tuned for roughly best AFR at 20 Celsius so any value over or under this will result in compensations .
