I recently bought a new car which needs to be taxed. I bought insurance for it online and am now fully insured, however the cover note has obviously not been sent out yet. I need tax on Monday as i have no other car....

I have a confirmation email with my name, policy number, address etc saying i am insured from today, but would this be sufficient to get the car taxed at a post office!?

you could tax it online but that might not be up to date enough with only buying insurance.

I went post office with, emails, print outs, policy numbers and they didnt want to know.

no certificate=no tax

They have faxed me through a copy of the certificate but it is only a temporary one valid til sometime in february....any chance now!?

I got tax with a faxed cover note once. Worth a try, worst they can say is no.

cover note should be fine. If not ask your insurance company to give the post office a call. Elephant have done that for me once and the post office wrote out the tax disc when they got off the phone!

You may find some post offices will let you get away with it but id imagine chances are very slim indeed.

Don't even attempt to tax it at your dvla local office.
