bassicly my mot runs out tomorro I'm not going to drive it obviously but when its ready for the mot i obviously have to drive it to the mot station how can i still do this legally.

you are legally allowed to drive the car without an mot aslong as its to an mot station.

I was on my way there and got stopped, I jumped in at the deepend and just explained the car dosent hav an mot an I'm taking it down there.

More than likely they will check this up by either following you or in another way. i got followed down there.

Dont just drive there give the mot station a call and get yourself booked in first.

If you don't pre book you are breaking the law and can be prosecuted.

^^^totally agree, the only thing i would add is that the MOT station needs to be a reasonable distance away.......i.e other side of town would be OK, but 100 mile away would not

Legally your allowed to drive the car to a pre-booked test centre. The police vehicles all have an ANPR system which can check if youve got a license, insurance and MOT. Usually at our station if a vehicle doesn't have an MOT, we'll give the person 7days grace like with a TAX disc so don't worry to much about it - although you'll more than likely get a producer which isn't worth the hassle or paperword. just get it sorted ASAP. Pretty sure you can also drive to get work done on the car needed for the MOT as well, and depending upon your interpretation of the wording - it might allow you to drive to collect parts needed for repairs to pass the MOT. Trying to find the info now...

so i got the same prob but what happens if the car fails the mot can u take it home to fix or do u have to leave it there

It's definately a bit of a grey area though, especially with how far away the garage you're booked into can be.

When my G40 goes for it's test I'll be driving it about 15 miles away to the garage my mate works at for it's MOT. It wont have tax or mot.

Also worth pointing out, make sure there is a post office that does tax near the garage if you need tax, because if the car passes then apparently you aren't allowed to drive it anywhere until you tax it.

oops i did when i baught my car. i said to the garrage i got it from i wanted to collect it between 3 and 5 pm and turned up an hour early cos i got off work early and he hadnt been to get the tax so i had to get it on the way home.

i managed to get tax with just my sales recipt and mot, i didnt have my insurance docket/certificate or v5 as they were both in the post.
