hey everyone, I've got a 1.4cl, it came with steel wheels...

recently I've put vw mk5 alloys on it

will i have to tell my insurance although alloys are standard on some of the 1.4cls??

some 1.4cl's had alloys from new!

I'm asking this because i hear if the car you are insuring doesnt come with alloys as standard, you are insurance goes up more!

but if it came with alloys u can swap them without altering it

I would let them know! It shouldn't make a great deal of difference anyway :)

When you insured your car, you insured the car with standard steel wheels, therefore the addition of the alloys means it has been "modified". Therefore they (the insurance company) could, if they really wanted to get nasty, invalidate your insurance if you crashed.

I'm also guessing that you 1.4cl is a Mk4 and therefore the Mk5 alloys may not have been an option on the Mk4.

With regard to being able to swap alloys if you car already has them, the only way I can see this working is that if your car has standard OEM alloys, and you swapped them for a set of the alloys that were the same size and available as an option for that specific model. It would still be best to tell you insurance company even then!
