Minimal tyre tread depth

Featured Replies

Got a set of wheels hear with a bit of tread left on them but not sure how much ( going outside to measure in a bit). Just wanted to know whats the minimum your allowed. Only going to use the tyres as a temp thing cause I feel safer with a nice big juicy amount of tread on them.

Tried accessing the DVLA site but it just keeps timing out.

Help?!

minmum is 1.6mm

1.6mm across the centre 2/3rds on the tyre.

Be careful on em though, particularly in the wet.

There all about 3mm.

Thats usually when I change them!

1.6mm is the legal minimum, but many (tyre companies) suggest 3mm as a minimum of what is safe.

I think that's probably good advice however...

1.6mm

1.6mm over the central 3 quarters of the tyre
