hi you may have seen the jetta mk1 link I'm hopefully going 2 get it but its been declaired as scraped and has no v5 i always thaught that you could send off for a new v5 and re-register it

yeh it can you have 2 apply 2 the dvla for a v5 with a reciept of purchase and chassis,engine numbers.you should call the dvla 2 find out anything i may have missed

which is a test to make sure the car is safe to retun to the road and not 3 cars welded together badly

the form will tell you where the local testing station

the cost of the test is £36.00 and the car has to have a currant mot before you go to have it tested

when your cat has passed test dvla will issue a log book for your car

And why would you have the test, that checks if your car is safe on the road, if it had an MOT?

I've never needed a V5 to get an MOT. ?

The only reason I can think of is to do with waste management legislation, which would effectively stop them from selling a car to be returned to the road.

you dont need a v5 for an mot. and the process for a vic test is mot then vic then you get log book, an mot is to check your car of roadworthyness the vic test checks the identity of your car for example it doesnt have the engine out of a stolen car. hence v.i.c vehicle identity check, your car would have to go throught once if it were a cat c damaged reapirable like mine...

the process i went through to put a scrapped alfa back on the road was: bought car with no mot knowing it had been scrapped without log book, phoned dvla to check wether it had a VIC marker or i could just apply for the log book but it needed the check sooo, got it mot'd, went on the vosa website to download the vic application form, picked out a site filled out the form and sent it off together with a cheque for £35 to the site i had chosen, received conformation of the date i had chosen on the form, insured my car, drove it to the test centre with no tax as it is allowed (there and back as long as it has mot and insurance), test took 10-15 mins, lady gave me a vic pass note which i took the nearest DVLA office to apply for the logbook (free if you have had the vic check) and tax the car which can only be done with the pass note (with mot and insurance documents) at a DVLA office unless you wait for the logbook to be sent through the post then at any post office of your choosing.

i got the v5 to day how do i tell if it needs a v.i.c test cheers

done this about a year ago all i had to do was phone dvla and send a fee of £22 she said i didnt need a vic test then they sent me out a new tax book.
