Car Tax on a 53 (2004) - Do i need an MOT?

Featured Replies

Probably a bit late to be asking this seeing as my car tax has already run out, but do i need an MOT to get my car taxd? I cant seem to work out whether my car is still exempt from needing an MOT or not?

My log book says my car was made in January some time in 2004 and the form to claim exemption from MOT says;

"Note: Because it is impossible to discover the precise date of construction, the date of manufacture is always taken to be the last day of the year in which a vehicle was constructed. The vehicle’s first annual MoT test will be due at the end of the third year from its date of manufacture."

...and also

"...the vehicle was manufactured in the year 2004 and that no more than 3 years have elapsed since that date".

No more than 3 years have passed... a month or something has?

I'm stupid, someone please help.

Thankyou in advance

it doesnt matter when the car was made, you need an MOT 3 years after the car was first registered for road use, so you need to check the V5C for when it was registered....

new cars can be stuck in a field for 6 months or more before they are registered

Okay but what if it was registered in January 2004? Would i need an MOT?

yeah you need an MOT if the car has been registered for 3 years, so say it got registered on 10 jan 2004 you need to get an MOT on 10 jan 2007
