is the only problen the fact that you cant get on to there ramps? my mk 4 is pretty low (120mm) how much do you think i would have to raise it to get it in to a run of the mill mot test station?

Alot of MOT centres have low loading ramps for sports cars and stuff.

my car got stuck on the ramps at my uncles work when it went for mot and had to be pulled of so i advise you jack it up a bit 4 mot

one problem is the brake rollers are quite deep set

I had mine tested on the road though, but I'm not sure everywhere will be so happy to do that

my lupo was a bit low, but as the test centre were unimpressed by this, they failed it as the wishbone bushes were showing signs of wear, though they wouldnt have seen it if it was near to the standard ride height, so i shouldve raised it a bit before... youve been warned

ja, who cares after you get the new certificate, i had it 15mm off the road, but it looked rad! lowest about, coilover stylz!

your car can fail a MOT if it is to low

BUT....its a grey area which most testing stations won't use against you

the way to look at it is that if you cause a MOT tester hassle cos your car is very low, they are more likely to fail your car

How can you fail for being to low? I can understand if its causing parts of the car to touch which should touch but apart from that why??

got mine on friday :) but should be ok as my m8 works at garage... so he will ignore plates and blue side ligths

hi there is not limit on how low your car is it cannot fail if its low only if there is fouling components or rubbing on the arches i checked today(advantages as a mechanic)) whoop whoop

i think all MOTs have to be done on 4 poster ramps. so they are all drive on

^^^ yeah thats right, but its not the ramp you have to worry about, its the rolling jack they have.

i put my old GT on the mot ramp and was like... sweet it's made it on, but when the mot dude tryed to jack it up, he couldent even get it past the sump.

where my dad takes his merc, they have a pit. but you got to go over the rolers to get onto the pit.

hence me going to my mates where it gets on no trouble.

When the ramp is on the floor put 2 trolley jacks on it.

then just jack the car up to get the ramp under

exactly the problem i had.....2 mechnics had to push the car up and a 3rd pushed the jack past the sump

they found it funny & it was only after giving me my MOT certificate that they said they could have failed it for been to low

.......as i've said already said in an earlier post in this thread, a lot of MOT testers won't fail your car for been too low, but they can if they want to

the less problems you cause for the MOT tester, the less likely your car is to fail

Dont they have to fail you on something. Surely just being low isnt illegal.

If you fail on something as a result of being low then fair enough.

most MOT testers are OK with German plates cos they can read them, their not really bothered about the legal side, all they care about is them been ledgiable (<<wrong spelling maybe )

LHD lights sometimes aren't a problem either......the Halo lights that my brother had on his mk1 Golf were LHD and adjusted to as close as he could get to RHD beam pattern.....& i think the car past an MOT with these lights on

my mk1 Golf passes MOT with 80/100 watt bulb in the headlights and these bulbs are marked "not for road use"

id raise it cause some mot testers are knobs and dont care and will just ride it on regardless of how low it sits + they have to check for play in the bearings arms etc

it all depends on the mot tester. my clios were very low and it used to scrape everywhere i also had the problem of it not going on the rollers easily as my splitters (both front and rear) would catch. Also the lips/ramps into the garages caused problems as it would get stuck on the centre section so i had to drive it in diagonally to ensure that it did not rip the exhaust off.

luckily i knew the tester and he did not have a problem with it as it passed everytime (i have to look after my cars properly :-D )

But if you dont know the tester and its silly low then i would recomend raising it.

offically they cannot fail it for being to low although if it is they are more likly to be less leaneant on items that wear out quicker eg. a joint thats slightly perished due to it being low then they will fail it.

yeh it can fail if your wheels touch lock to lock if the ester is an a**

but depends on the tester myn passes coz my uncle is the tester
