Only Need 3 Months Insurance Till Im 21

Featured Replies

As the title says, I am going to turn 21 in mid June and only need insurance till then but short term insurances only offer short terms insurances to 21's & over! which is very frustrating plus the fact they only seem to do 1-28d ays...

Now is there something out there for me that I don't know about?

Is it possible for me to take out insurance, do it monthly and just before my birthday i'll cancel it and do a new one. Can I do that?

Thanks in advance.

y do u need it till you are 21? whats happening when you are 21?

Well my premium will drop a huge amount. That's like the watershed age. Once you've hit 21, your premium drops by a huge amount.

Then they will re-adjust your premium accordingly. Oh and 25 is the water-shed age. My premium at 21 wasnt significally different from when i was 20.

Hm. Thing is, I wanted to pay every 6months but since the watershed age is 25, guess that goes out the window although I will call them up about my age change and get it lowered :)

Best quote i've had so far is RAC. I was gonna go with Norwich Union but there customer service is absolutely crap basically so yea.

Ecarinsurance

they do 1 month policys, which you can just continue each month. if you take out 8 in a row they give you a 1 year NCB which i thought was good.

its more expensive than just taking out a year policy and cencelling it after 3 months (cancellation fee of 35 usually)

but at the end of the day its up to you which you choose to do.

have a look at ecarinsurance oh and another thing... a lot of people find ecarinsurance cheaper if they put they have mods??? i dont understnad this either! but there you go !

If your on a normal policy i dont think they refund money once you turn 21. They certainly didnt with me.

Also it doesnt go down really when you turn 21, its **** they tell you to make you buy their insurance.

Try Elephant and Bell for cheap quotes.

Couldn't agree more mate

They give me good prices, but they aren't half a bunch of idiots.

I mean, REAL idiots.

Even the ones with "ok" english accents

Yes they are rubbish, i spent 20mins telling them my postcode... for some reason the letters L & S arent in there dictionary.

Then i had to tell my number plate...

  • 1 month later...

I did a very similar thing when i was 18 waiting to be 19, i took a 3 month policy out (none of this renew each month rubbish) with lancaster (higly recommended), i also went for limited mileage as i could easly work out that for 3 months and it made it cheaper. The policy ended shortly after i was 19, i then shopped around for a quote, and i was quids in. i basically ended up with 15months of car insurance for the price of a very competitive 12

Trust me being 19 and holding a license for 6months is much cheaper than 18 and a couple of months.

So i assume that method of cheapskatness will work with you too.

recomend Quinn Direct Cheapest Around I Believe :D

RAC Insurance IS Norwich Union. I'm with RAC Insurance and have had no problems with them at all, they were very helpful when some guy totalled my passenger side in a car park (I wasn't even in the car at the time!). Always been quick and helpful on the phones and they sorted it nice and quick, they used a VW approved bodyshop, nice results too :-D .

I'm 21 (was 20 when I took out the policy) and have used the 6 months payment thing.

I heard that with Elephant insurance this is a massive loop hole in the small print saying basically if you crash we can decide not to pay out which i thought was wierd. Try Direct line i got my insurance from 1000+ down to £701 with them, plus my G/F has her insurance with them of which i am a named driver and it went down to mid £600's

I had a bump when i had insurance with Diamond (which is a trading name of elephant and admiral)

and i had no problems with them, all i did was fill in a form and that was the end of that! Easy.
