basically, i was on my way to styledynamix to get my front two tyres changed as they were below the tread limit.

i had booked an appointment with them at 12:30pm for 2 nankang 195/45's, and i had an appointment and deposit slip on me

police stop me on the way, there was 11 officers!!! all started hassling me, an gave me 3 points for each tyre. i explained to them i was on my way and offered to show them the deposit slip and the appointment card but they tell me 'theres no need as its probably fake'

one of the officers quickly prints off the ticket, gives it to me, and goes 'say bye bye to ure licence young man'

the ticket they gave me was at 11:57am, 33 minutes from my 12:30 appointment time, which clearly shows i gave myself half an hour to get to styledynamix an be slightly early so i dont miss my appointment.

i got my tyres changed in the end...but am left with this stupid ticket, £120 fine an 6 points, an no licence if i dont win

some police officers are complete twats, an there was bloody 11 of them! one remark from one officer was 'u take this car to shows then?'... "yes officer"... 'well how can you take it to shows with that big dent on your roof?', refering to the dent i recieved wen a brick fell on my car during that windy weather... fuckin knobend

How exactly were there 11 police officers. did they have a minibus?!

They have minimum marks on tyres so there view is that you should get them changed when it reaches that level.

definitely take it to court, its worth trying to defend yourself against shit like this. some coppers are complete arseholes, especially in the group mentality that you encountered. if one or two had pulled you over they probably would have been ok.

You can drive a car to an MOT as long as it is safe to do so in they eyes of the police.

Bald tyres aren't safe in the eyes of the police. You should remove them from the car and take them to be changed, not drive there.

I think you should be fine. If the officer said "It's probably fake" to your offer to show him your appointment then it obviously matters. If yoiu shouldn't drive to change your tyres then he would have said so, disregarding your appointment altogether. As long as you're not driving 100 miles to get there, I don't see the problem in driving to get them changed. I certainly wouldn't want to try to get the bus with one under each arm!!

As far as I'm aware, having bald tyres, like most motoring offences is a Strict Liability Offence. htis means that if you were driving the car with bald tyres, No matter what excuse you come up with you have commited an offence, and this type of 'crime' dosent require a 'guilty mind', so just being in the car and driving it is enough to have you convicted succesfully. However in these sorts of situations you are quite likely to get 5 points so you have one last lifeline, thats if you put a good case foward and say how you need your licence for your job etc..

a few tears might help.

yeah i agree with this one.. fella sorry to hear about the police... they always are a bunch of wa**ers and there when u dont need them... hope u sort it out as it owuld be a shame to loose your license..

take it to court and drag it out for as long as possible, reason being if it takes over a certain amount of time the police wont bother with it as they have enough people who will simple cough up the cash and take the points (i know this as i know someone who works for the police processing speeding fines and other road traffic offences!) at the end of the day its all about profit making and if it goes to court and you win it will cost them money, therefore unless they are 100% sure of a conviction the police wont bother!

driving on bald tyre is a bit daft though, its not much effort to check them. but on this occasion i think the police have been a bit harsh
