Why is my insurance so much!

Featured Replies

I am getting so annoyed now.

I am 18, will have had my licence for a year and a years no claims when I come to renew my insurance and a clean licence, I drive a base spec 1.4 8v polo 6n and I am struggling to get any quotes under £2000 third party fire and thieft.

Looking at this forum, people pay loads less than my and to be honest it is just so frustrating I am thinking of selling the car.

that does sound pretty extortionate, even at your age. a lot of places specify that you need to be over 19 now to get a quote, but even so you should still be able to find something cheaper than that! what sort of companies are you approaching? £1000+ seems to be standard for some shitty companies, even at my age (I'm 28 and got qoutes for a mk1 polo 890cc, loads of places got back to me with a "brilliant quote" of £1400 etc!) try places like brentacre, adrian flux, HIC, they should be able to sort you out with a better quote. dont sell your polo just yet, keep trying dude!

Adrian Flux said £2500, that's slightly more than what I paid for my first year of driving when I was 17!. Brentacre wouldn't give me a quote.

The best I have got so far is £1200 from A-Plan. I think I am gona go with them.

elephant has given me good quotes and if u put family on you are ploicy they giv u a pretty good discount i hav my mum dad and uncle on ther n it dropped sumin lik £250 i basicaly wacked as much family on as i could so it would get cheaper

I've got a mk2 ranger 1.3 completely base just passed as of about 4weeks with my mum as a added driver was just £1200 with fire and theift and with legal cover etc that was with the cheepest confused could give me i cant rememeber who it was.

In my first year i put my car in my mums name and i was a named driver on her policy.

I refuse to pay thousands to insure a car thats worth £600, its a complete rip off.

Now I'm on my own insurance, and with elephant i pay about £500 on my Tdi. I'm even bitter about paying £500! hehe

Where you live can also have a big effect. Out near the sticks at my parents house Tesco offered me about £800 (19, 0NCB) but change the address to Birmingham and they were offering not far off £2000.

I am now with Elephant (like 97polo_16v) for just over £1000 with both parents as named drivers, they're worth a try

I feel so sorry for lads I really do. I insure my brother on his cars because I couldnt have him paying ok £1.5k for insurance. It's just stupid.

When I first started driving i was 17 with no NCB and no experience and I paid £800 on a 1ltrwhich i think is really good considering.

I now pay £350 though ;) and I'm 20 with 2 years no claims.. need i can get insured on most things now for a reasonable price!! :D

Yeah, us girls have it easy. You've got all the young male boy racers that keep crashing to thank

for your insurance bill.

Have you tried the likes of Tesco and Adsa? They seem pretty cheap for yoofs.

It's a combination of your young age and the area you live in, I think most of Bolton is pretty high on insurance. I get the same in the Oldham/Rochdale area.

Did you tell Adrian Flux that you were a club member? That will bring the quote down a bit.

Try these

- Adrian Flux

- HIC

- CIS

- Elephant

- Brentacre

All should be cheap.

try quinn direct

Try bell - a flexi-bell policy was miles cheaper for me than anyone else. I'm paying £1500 for 18 on a provisional, when i pass the premium goes up to £1800. I took out a ten month policy though, so asuming i pass the test four months into the policy, i only pay the extra on the remaining 6 months (60%).

So 60% of the extra £300 is £180.

Come december i'll be 19 with 1yr NCB and Pass Plus. One broker gave me a quote of £600 for those details!!!

I'm on with Ecar, I'm paying 850 TPF&T at 17 with pass plus. On a 1.4 8v 6n :). Put my mum on and it went up! hahya.

Try QUINN £695 for me I'm 18, 1 years no claims and 3 points

direct line surprised me by being stupidly cheap. I've got a Mk3 polo Gt and pay just over £700 fully comp and I'm 20 with 0ncb, 3 points (sp30) and a declared "fault" accident.

really thought they'd be expensive but its the cheapest I've had.

first car was a honda civic 1.6sr coupe that cost £3,500 a year 2 insure with liverpool victoria, then a MG ZR 1.4 105+ with liverpool victoria again at £2,500, then i wrote that off :crybaby: third car was a ford focus 1.6 "black" ltd. edn, that was modded aswell and that was £2,100 with adrian flux - everything declared. so tbh mate, that quote of yours is daylight robbery!

but i'd recommend liverpool victoria or directline, both really good prices from the pair of them, and Liverpool vic paid out straight away when i had my accident.

John.

why is it mk4 polo 1.4's (60bhp) are group 5 insurance and u can get faster 1.4's that are only group 4 insurance.

my mates getting a 1.4 75bhp clio a bit newer than mine and its only group 4.

think its because insurance just aint based on performance and power its down to likely hood of being nicked and price of putting anything right on it that goes wrong. I.E VW parts and labour are a lot more than renaults and if the thread on them being stripped and torched in nottingham is anything to go by, they're a lot more desirable to thieves aswell.

John.

I'm with a new company called Enzyn or summin, i crashed and i have 1 n a half years experience, just turned 19 and have the insurance u r lookin for 4 £995

I feel so sorry for you youngsters trying to insure. i just bought a mk3 gt coupe and got it insnred wiv tesco for £198 with wife on policy. We are both over 35. she pays £277 for her scooby, again with Tesco but we both have at least 1 yr no claims . try tesco they seem pretty reasonable

i am 20 with no NCB and not driving a year and in a pretty bad postcode i am paying £1100 tpft which i found pretty good

£860 - 17 years old, 0 NCB, directline, 1.05 Mk3 hatch. This was actually cheaper than a lot of quotes I had if i was a named driver on my mums policy!
