Adding NCB onto a policy

Featured Replies

Hi does anyone know if its possible to add NCB onto a current policy. Basicly I had a moped before my car and directline let me use my NCB off that, i renewed my moped policy just before i passed my test and that is soon to expire! which leaves me with another NCB.

So if anyone knows?

Would phone them but working so much at the minute :disgust:

As far as I can remember you are not allowed to 'add' NCB discounts from other policies onto your one policy, basically your NCB is built on the number of years that you have had claim free & cannot be more than the number of years since you passed your test. It's kinda like if you've got 3 yrs no claims on a policy you are only allowed to use those no claims on one policy even though it is you personally who has built up the NCB :?

Not sure if this makes any sense or not :-)

No, reiterating what sally_healey you won't be "add" the no claims on. It does, however, mean you now have 2 policys with no claims. I wonder if you keep renewing your moped policy (won't be expensive i wouldnt have thought) if you can build up some guaranteed no claims, so when you switch your car to something faster, insurance should be really cheap?

I think he means when the moped policy is up can he tell his current insurer he has another years no claims to add

I think you can, I'm waiting to get my NCB off my one insurer to pass on to my current one

I realise that's what he means. I'm sure you can't do that. Otherwise every one would be doing it, i.e. taking out 3 or 4 moped policies at 16 when it's only a couple of hundred quid at the most, and end up with 3 or 4 years no claims when you start driving. It doesn't work like that unfortunately.

Hi cheers for the replies, yeah i thought there wasnt much point ending the moped policy because it was only a couple of hundred and in mind of adding it to my renewal of my car when it comes around, or even adding it mid way through my car policy. I will see what happens when my moped policy runs out and see if i can stick it on my policy or just wait till nexy year to use it.

So hopefully next ear i will have 3 NCB at the age of 19 :-) & will able to afford to insure something quick 8-)
