When i was caught doing 37 over the limit (motorway), they gave me the choice. Either 6 points, or a 56 day ban. I took the ban so i didn't have to do all my tests again.

What happened to your insurance afterwards, price wise?

When the traffic police pull you over after catching you with a hand held device, they give you a verbal NIP.

General guidelines

Limit Fixed Penalty Summons

20 mph 25 mph 35 mph

30 mph 35 mph 50 mph

40 mph 46 mph 66 mph

50 mph 57 mph 76 mph

60 mph 68 mph 86 mph

70 mph 79 mph 96 mph

You'll get a summons for that, and can 3-6 points and up to a 56 day ban. Saying that though, if you've only been driving for a year, 6 points and they'll have your licence off you anyway.

I have a friend who was caught at 64 in a 40 I think it was. He got 5 points and a bigger fine. You wouldn't loose your license but you'd be damn close if that were to happen.

107mph...your lucky you didn't get a straight ban with the resits.

FAR more people die due to speeding motorists than peadophiles and rapists combined.

Sorry, it just makes me  when I see people saying that

that table henry posted is interesting, or should i say ANNOYING - i got done doing 57mph in 50.

It's only a guideline. Whether it's the same for all forces or even current varies. If it's from the "Save your license" book or whatever it's called, forget about it. They can refer you to court for 1mph over the limit, or just give you a yelling at for doing double the limit.

Of course they're only guidelines! From different court rooms, to different magistrates you're going to get different results. Taking into account the time of day, the volume of traffic, previous convictions and what the magistrates have had for breakfast that morning...

They're not the guidelines from the 'save your licence book, they are the guidelines from the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO).

IIRC anything more than 25mph over the posted limit is court and a ban.

Pretty sure its 30, my brother got 3point and 60quid for 78 in a 50.

Exactly. Over 3,000 deaths are related to road traffic each year. Enforcement of road traffic rules, especially if a traffic officer, is one of the best things that can be done in my opinion.

I used to drive like a dickhead and had a court summons for speeding. The experience of being at court was enough to change my attitude. Don't go there and take the piss, they hear it about four times every day- be honest.

And the police aren't pathetic, on the whole they do a very demanding job and are out there to make lives better- not give people shit.

they need to have a visible marked car that you can see aswell as a speed camera sign!

Not true. Well at least not in Scotland...they run unmarked cars for a reason.

did anything come of it in the end mate???

Like most people have said, you're probably looking at a court appearence, however if you can convince them that your car is essential for work (not that hard to do) they will land you with put as many points on your licence as they can minus 1, which will be 5 due to you not driving for more that 2 years and not recieving your full 12 points. You'll probably get a fine as well

My brother got given 11 because he used that defence, and he was their for due care and attention for racing and 'apparently' nearing running over the pig that tryed to stop him XD

your brother by any chance isnt edd fowler?

This should be interesting. Jezza Clarkson reckons that because a DB9 has twice the stopping power of a normal car you should be able to drive it twice as fast, e.g 60 in a 30 - debate!

Mike.

I don't think its so much a case of the cars capabilities is the capabilities of the person behind the wheel.

The car might stop quicker but theres no point if you've already run the child over. Only difference it makes is how far you have to run to try and aid a dead child.
