Update - I do now use vacuum advance.

have you noticed any advantages yet?

Not really,no. It idled fine before, and with the timing in fair advance for a long stroke 8v.

But though it was an 8v before, its a 16v now it has vac. It now naturally revs higher, yet still has a sweet idle,so i cant really compare like for like because i changed the engine - i doubt it'd be as good at both 900rpm and 7500rpm without the vac as it is now.

Its only ran on 97ron or over as a vac-valver,too. Often used 95 before.

I know there have been lots of silly questions on bike carbs and most of the information has been covered time and time again..

Just considering a 1.4 16v AFH engine in my mk1 golf, and thought the best and easiest way is to run it on bike carbs..

Would i need the vac advance? Could come in handy to know when making my inlet mani!

And would it have to be run on 97ron? Or just run better on it?

Thinking this will be a daily for a short time, does anyone think it would be too impractical?

Thanks very much :-D

Forgot to say, the AFH has schrick fast road cams in.. does this mess everything up with the timing??

I'm running my without the VAC advanced. Its fixed on Full advance. Since I've put the AFH in I've only run it on Super.
