Got a phone call this morning from Budget. They interrupted my sleep, but i feel they offered me a pretty coprehensive package. It was based on warranties manufacturers offer you when you buy the car brand new.

Basically its cover against all mechanical and electrical failure with them paying up to £3000 towards any claim. Will cover you mainland europe etc etc....will pay hotel charges and recovery charges(i think) if the car is away from home.

This is at a cost of £16.95 a month, which i think isnt all that bad at all, especially since i am about to change the engine and gearbox etc. Its gave me that little extra piece of mind with regards to the new gearbox going in.

It is over 2 years and only costs £203 for the year. I think its a crackin offer, especially since its monthly payments, and i am pretty sure the lad said it can be cancelled at any time.

Any you guys on a similar policy, or have had any experience of somethin similar. What you think of it??

From your insurance company...? In your situation with your mods I wouldn't bother Phil.

funny thing is i got a call from the same people a couple of days ago, paperwork came through today...

now i have a couple of things that probably need doing to my car, was looking to give up on it since I've spent a bit on it already, but now this gives a better outlook for the future of my car!

I've had a look at the AA one, doesnt cover unless you have actually broken down somewhere, and cannot continue to carry on you journey?

does this apply to the budget one?

I would steer WELL clear of ANY of these 'aftermarket' warranties....

I have to deal with them at work (i work for VW)

The companies have a minefield of components that they DO NOT cover, clauses here and there, they only pay a limited amount towards labour costs, they rarely have any accounts set up with dealerships so you will end up paying initially and having to claim it back from them which, from experience, can take weeks.

A majority of the companies only cover 'sudden mechanical breakdown', not components which fail but still allow the car to be drive-able.

As always, no service or wear and tear items are included under the warranty, nor are items which can be subject to driver abuse (i.e. clutch etc)

Unless you are purchasing an all component cover extended warranty from VW when the manufacturers 3 year warranty has expired then don't bother....

Save the money you would be spending each month and have that put by for any repairs

Polo01 - with regard your gearbox - whoever supplies and fits it should give you a warranty on the part and labour should anything go wrong - i know people think VW are expensive but genuine parts are used, and supplied with a 2yr manufacturing defect warranty

Actually to be fair I have found a company that claim to cover wear and tear aswell as mechanical breakdown on the vehicle. THey even claim to cover components such as the geearbox, clutch, and the brake systems. Seems pretty good but I have a fair few mods. I'm just wondering how they would go about this??

Anyone have ideas?
