Joyriders crashed into the car shunting it into another car

The police have been notified but not the insurance company.

If I was to buy the car could I be held responsible in any shape or form? Regardless if claims are made, charges are brought etc.

Am I right in thinking that I didn't own the car at the time therefore it has nothing to do with me?

but insurance will be a killer. Am about to get 1 years NCB in 2 weeks.

Realistically it will sit in a garage for 2 years being turned over every few days

just a thought mate, would it not be worth having a look at this in 2 years? by then you could find an original g40 [well if you cant find a g40 in 2 years id give up lol] and save a lot of money now by puttin it to use elsewhere rather than have it sitting in the garage for 2 years?

g40's are going for crazy money. in 2 years they will be even more.

leaving it in a garage wont cost me anything and to be perfectly honest the car is such a bargain. I sent a e-mail to the DVLA and am popping into the local cop-shop tomorrow to ask a few questions. Plus I will be beginning my motorsport degree. So as my knowledge increases I can work on the engine before I drop it in.

insurance is a bitch, tried to get a quote, just over £2k

you wasnt the legal owner at the time it happened? surely it would just forward to the previous owner, if not you can forward it to them.

I reckon you should go for it. You are what, 18? Give it a year more, you'll be 19 with 2 years no claims you should be able to get insurance for under a grand. How bad is the car itself? Is it an original G40, or a conversion itself?

if i were you i would remove the charger and keep it as a nice ornament in your house..

other than that, go for it. or buy the car as scrap. think there is an option on the V5

You'll be fine as long as you date the invoice when you buy it and get the seller to sign it.

That way you are not responsible for anything that happened prior to the date of purchase.

It's like if you sell a car, you write date and time on the invoice so that if the buyer gets a speeding ticket on the way home you can prove you had sold it.

Make sure you take the lader off and store it in the dry. Whip the plugs out and pour some oil down the bores, should help stop things seizing.

was thinking of something along these lines myself, but wasnt sure on the implications of running it in future. maybe squirtin some 'duck oil' would be good?

id want to close the BRV too, wouldnt want spiders in there!

you wont be held responsible as at the time of the accident, the car wasnt your responsibility. if anything comes up about you will just have to refer them to the previous owner, the car wasnt at fault anyway as it was parked so shouldnt be claimed against.

how desperate are you for a g40? lol i was the same. soon wears off once youve had one. its one of those things though just need to get it out of your system.

Garage it....rebuild it....get it all tuned up...then unleash it a year or two down the line.

The DVLA will consider you responsible for the vehicle (ie registration and licensing issues) from the date you acquire it, for issues relating to Insurance liability I can only advise you to contact your Insurance provider.

If the police were not finished with it,they would've seized it. If it's not been seized and the current owner is in a position to sell it,simply get a receipt,and its yours. Anything that happened before the date and time on the receipt isnt of your concern. As for storage,fill with cheap oil to the filler cap,and also bores. Empty coolant,disconnect battery,and on a dry day (dry car) - store.

Very very dodgey mate.

I got a phone call asking if I have the car. I said no and the owner says he has reported it stolen.

Basically the cars dissapeared off the face of the earth. cops , Police and his insurance company dont know where it is.

I know the owner of the only scrappy who takes cars without log books and he aint seen it. Very dodgey affair.
