Yeah the reason the number is so high is because they were also fitted to mk2 golfs and Jettas on the continent. The last few ended up in polo genesis models when production of the mk2 golf ended. (so goes my theory...)

I've never even seen an nz engines polo and had 3 genesis1.3s and 2 saloons, also been loads in scrappy and never seen any, does it take much to convert them to gt spec?

The bottom end is different (high compression pistons in GT) the ecu is different and the cam is of a "better" profile in the GT. Not sure what else engine wise, but the GT also had a close ratio box, steering damper and an anti-roll bar on the rear axle.

i was lead to belive the gt box is the 8P, which my NZ has in it ?

8P is the economy wide ratio box. The AHD is the most common close ratio GT box. 5-speed NZs are all 8P.

£650 is quite a high price for an NZ really... GTs don't go for much more than that! You did well mate!

If anything,what else is there that the NZ responds very well to, engine wise this is.

Thats all you need. There are two other things you can change, but it's questionable whether a GT inlet manifold or golf air flow meter will show any improvement on an NZ, I think it's unlikely.
