Today i quickly parked on some zig zag white lines outside a shop to run in and get something, i didnt realise this was such a serious offence, thought it was just a matter of a traffic warden etc. but low and behold i returned to my car to find two community support traffic officers giving me an endorsable offence and fixed penalty ticket of £60. They said its up to the magistrates but i could get 3 points.

I didnt give them any bullshit excuse just pleaded with them etc saying i honestly didnt realise etc.

I think I'm going to appeal it...

any suggestions?

also...

what i really want to know is how these 3 points are going to affect me. I'm 17 and i know that within two years if you get 6 points you get banned and have to retake your test.

are these points different from speeding and dangerous driving because they are for a parking offence?

How will this affect my insurance next year? Please help, any advice would be great!

You're not gonna get points for that. You'll probably just end up with a fine.

If its just a fine my advise would be to just pay up. You were after all in the wrong!

If they try to slap 3 points on your licence, then i would take the case to court on the grounds that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. The punishment for shop lifting is less than that!!

pay the fine and take it like a man! lol. I can't see them giving you points for incorrectly parking but you will have to cough up £60. 3 points may add 10% ish to your insurance. Maybe less. Been too long since i worked at an insurance company.

Was the line properly painted, were there any cracks or breaks in the line or was it solid. Get a picture of the lines and compare it with what the law states the line should be like.

If you have grounds to appeal then why not appeal, the law is very clear on what it says about parking, and if the councils screw up, its there fault and you are well within your right.

But it does depend on what the lines were like

If your getting a parking ticket all you have to do is get in your car and drive off

Nowdays if a traffic warden is giving a ticket they have to take photos of the offence, reg plates front and back and tax disk

Which would take a good ten mins

If they haven't put anything on your screen then you don't have to wait just jump in and drive off

Friend got 3 points for this and was appealed, appeal was thrown out and the fine went up with court costs. reason for the points is that by blocking the zigzags you in fact block the view for cars n pedestrians which in turn could cause a fatal accident :(

mate i got 3 points in my first 2 years of driving and to be totally honest it didnt really even affect my insurance!! infact putting alloys on increased my insurance more than points!! its not the end of the world if you get em you just have to be careful after untill you out of you probation.

Parking on the white zig zag lines near a crossing is seen as a serious offence, as it is seen as a road safety issue and not just a parking violation.

But regardless of it being a road safety issue if the zig zag are in anyway broken from general wear and tear then they are void,

same for the ticket, if it wasnt written out clearly using the proper information and wording then its also invalid,

We ought to have a club polo meet on a zebra crossing sometime, seeing as it's technically a "show" we'll be allowed to have our pimp german plates on and gangsta dark tints all round. Make sure it's near some speedbumps so we can complain to the council as well.

Few months after my test when i had my corsa, i parked on zig-zag lines when i was at the chippy. Came back out police van sitting behind my corsa.

Gave me a £60 fine and 3 points on the spot.

YOu need your counterpart, and they will write on it under endorsments. Its just 3 points, if you have none already then your'e fine. But i would advise to go within the 28 days, or they might ven put a warrent out for your arrest...no joke!
