Short Term Insurance

Featured Replies

There has been alot of times where I have needed insurance for a day. Usually because I've wanted to buy a car from far away. Normally I have to uninsure my car, insure the new one and then drive it, uninsure it and then insure mine again. Cost alot of money and is a pain in the arse.

Finally found somewhere that will insure cars short term. Even european cover.

I have just insured the Polo for a day for £12.60. Which is pretty cheap really.

Its all done online aswell so you don't need to spend 2 weeks in a que waiting for someone to answer the bleeding phone!!

Anyway, the company is called http://www.dayinsure.com/

Unfortunately you have to be over 21 to be insured with them but none the less its still useful!

Norwich Union do the same thing. Cost me £10.50 to drive my GT home, but I'm a bit older than you. Very easy to do.

All you need is a mate in a garage that can sneak the trade plates out for you :paranoid:

They only cover the lack of road tax. You will have to get your mate to drive the car, if he has motor traders insurance too.

I'd be careful with this - dayinsure don't cover any mods as I just found out when trying to insure my bf on my car for the wkend!

dont know if this helps any one but i am with Quinn Direct, adn i can drive any one elses car (no 4x4, soft tops, or pickups) anytime, but only covered 3rd party, maybe fire and theft as well but i'll have to check. You can do this with them as long as you still got acces to your normal car ie not in bits or off the road for work etc.

but for 12.60, thats not bad heartagram

Are you sure its ANY other car, and not any car that is insured by somebody else. Its very unusual to have a clause saying you can drive any other uninsured car 3rd party. Whereas its very common to have any car insured by someone else covered 3rd party.

I'm with quinn direct also, i have a 3rd party fire and theft policy and it says " the policy holder, if the have a full EU driving liscence, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any private motor car subject to the terms of this policy". so i take it i can drive any other car with the owners permission.

Just noticed that alot of these short term insurance companies will not insure cars built before 1993 for some reason. As I found out last night.

Exactly, I've heard of plenty of fools who have ended up without a licence after believing they can drive 'any car'. Make sure you read the small print before you get in the porsche.

I'm fully comp with the NFU and my policy states 'covered 3rd party on any vehicle not belonging to you, excluding cars used for hire or reward'
