i got some questions for all the people who dont have their front plate on their bumper as I'm currently in the process of smoothing a 16v bumper for my polo.

is it legal to take it off the bumper?

do you have to display it elsewhere?

is it ok to have it on your dashboard in the window?

how often do you get pulled for not having it on the bumper?

what do the police say?

what does the MOT tester say?

is there a way you can have it on your bumper and have it removable for shows without leaving any marks?

As i understand it Both plates have to be visible on the car, didnt say they have to be fixed to the bumper but they do have to be visible.

Apparently they can't be behind glass - no idea why?

Should also be forward facing so you shouldn't go sticking them on the top of the bonnet facing upwards. Should be central on the car (unless it's an Alfa Romeo ).

Other than that - they can go pretty much where you want.

True. Alfa Romeo have to abide by the same rules as everyone else,and those rules allow the plate to be placed at any point across the width of the car. Other manufacturers design their cars to accept plates in the middle simply because they look stupid on one side. They have tiny plates in Italy,you know..

Hence why most Italian imports need the square style plates? I've seen loads of Integrales running square front and rear plates.

its because of insurance companys........ they only insure whats between the plates so if u got it in the front window and u have a front end crash then they wont pay out because it wasnt on the front of the bumper , so they'd only pay from the back to you front windowscreen if that makes scence.

Lol What a load of tosh! So the front bumper of Citroen SM's arn't covered? (the plate is behind a glass nose cone) And anything in front of the windscreen of a tractor isnt covered? Someones been havin a laugh with you,mate.. You've got to be able to stand a set length in front of a vehicle,and be able to read the plate.

Anyone noticed how gayrons get away with no front plate? Suppose the owners think they run the country. Or more to the point, they do run the country

And motorcycles? They don't even have a front plate?

My dad's bike does.

It's black with white writing and welded onto the front wheelarch, pointing to the side. And it's totally legal.

But then the bike was made in 1968.

both my plates fell off the car in town due to shit sticky pads, i didnt notice till i got to the garage which was half an hour away, had to go back into town and scout around for my plates!!!

jus leave it off, or put it on the passenger side sunvisor, so when you go thru speed carerams just flip it up in case its a foward facing one !!

had it in window for months only been stopped for it once and just got a producer

I've yet to be pulled up for german rear plate // no front plate!

german plates been on since E38 last year...
