I was just wondering what the best type of set up was for a 6n, without getting into silly money. In my old 8v I just put in an Alpine head unit and fitted 2 6x9 in the rear parcel shelf and it absolutely pumped, but I have gone off the idea of having speakers in my rear parcel shelf but I deffo need some more speakers in my 16v. All the new VW's seem to go with 8 speakers, 2 tweeters and speakers in each door card.

My mate reakons it's best to stick with the 4 speakers in the front and have an amp and sub in the boot, the only thing is I dont really fancy having a sub in my boot as it isn't the biggest boot in the world.

At the moment I have my Alpine head unit and the 4 standard speakers in the front, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

depends on budget basic setup for best listening quality is replace front components ( amp them if funds allow ) and a sub in the rear if you want some bass otherwise just comps up front but bass is a must for me

Yea you are rite, if you have the money a sub is something else, mine is mindblowing and is only 300w rms, but 6x9s can cost nothing these days if you shop on ebay

You get what you pay for....

But lets all be honest and say that 6x9s full range speakers are a cop out, trying to get more bass out of a smaller speaker. Unfortunately, they are the speaker of choice but are comparatively shite compared to a good set of components. Replace all the speakers, components front and rear. If you want 6x9s or a sub have the best of both worlds and for out some cash for some Acoustic Research 6x9 bass drivers and a good monoblock and crossover.

Your sound will only ever be as good as the weakest link in the chain. The headunit, speakers, wires, amp, sub, the way you have mounted them, panel vibration and rattle, insulation etc etc. Your alpine is a good start, and the wiring won't be a problem unless you start running power leads to an amp near to them. My brother has just put 2 infinity components, 2 alpine components and a 4 channel amp into his Ibiza. The alpines are more bassy so they go in the back.

If you like listening to good quality sound, you need to think about the whole shabang not just speakers and an amp.

u need an enclosure for any bass drivers to sound good

if you want good sound, get a decent set of components and a good amp to run them.

biggest mistake is running quality speaker with too little power

I think I am going to go for the Alpine components up front and some alpine co-axel (sp) in rear

3x 12" JL Audio W3's (propa bass lol)

Just need speakers now and ready to fit in new GTi - had it in my LCR and was amazing. Ears hurt after a while lol - cant wait to see what it's like in lil polo

Directed eh? Nice stuff... Not convinces about the head unit though. It'll be nice don't get me wrong, but I think the toys are adding to the value not a vast increase in sound quality

I like the Headunit - not for quality (never owned JVC b4 tho TBH) but just features..

I love my amps tho lol...had them powdercoated gloss black ready for re-installation lol

Nice - I personally think that a carputer would be a better overall package. And mine has cost about two thirds to half of what I can see that HU for!

What do you think to, two sets of Focal componant speakers, one set in the front and the other set in the rear door cards, then eventually an amp and small sub in the boot. Everyone raves on Focal componant speakers, I had never heard them till my mate got some and every on here seems to like them so I think I might give them a whirl. Let me know what you think to the set up, oh and they will all be ran through an Alpine head unit.

Focals are good - though I'd want a good amp to run them through. And I'd wanna fork out some serious money on a good headunit, there is much debate as to what is good, but Alpine generally are. The older ones present much better sound quality for the money second hand than a brand spanker for under £100 will. But as I said, sound quality isn't just about the equipment, its also about the quality of the WHOLE install

There is no need at all for Focals or any speakers in the rear.

I have Focal K2Ps running of an MTX 4002 Amp, the componenets were 375 quid so not sure if there in your price bracket but they are the best thing I have heard.

I have an Eclipse Hu to which arent cheap (500quid), but they do have a cheaper version which is around 200-300 which I installed in my mates car and even with all the basic settings it was also very good.

Was amusing when one of the workers from halfords came up, he thought it was cheap arse make until he had listened to it, then he was left wondering why he spent 500quid on a peice of shit that played DVDs. Personally that what I ave a widescreen TV and surround sound for.

ACKY - did you get your sub repaired or get a new one? running a 4002 for the fronts must outbalance that little 11" a bit!

Erm I have a new sub sat at the shop, and it has been there for 2 months, I must go pick it up lol.

Ah it isnt that big, but me and Martin(Polo of Boom) might be making a spesh box to give it some extra kick.

8001, saw one of them in Macclesfield, there a beast!!!! I think that would be OTT even for my Focals K2Ps haha

My question is if you have say an alpine heand unit is it a good idea to buy speakers of the same make or does it not really matter? I need some new door speakers to go behind the grilles can anyone reccomend some good ones? And what size do you need?

doesn't matter it's budget that comes into play with most buying decisions
