Hi if i was to do a conversion & was to fill the DVLA form out to change the model from CL to a GT would i have to tell my insurance it was a conversion or would it not matter as it would be listed as a GT on their system & do they generally charge more for conversions rather than just getting insured on a proper GT?

I think that you would have to let them know it was a conversion (just to be safe). They don't generally charge more for conversions, the price tends to go up when you start modifying the car.

You can't change the model of the car with the DVLA, only the engine number. It will always be a Polo CL no matter how many GT bits you put on it.

i ws told not so many months ago, that if you put a bigger/quicker engine into a car, they base the insurance on what car it came out of,i was going to put a coupe s engine in a ranger cos its engine was fooked, and thats what hic told me, but then i decided to keep the coupe s and scrap the ranger ,and when i swapped my insurance over it was the same price, just an admin fee to pay.

That's because HIC are a specialist insurer, and those terms seem pretty fair. I'd like to see you try that one on Admiral or similar!

Would be pretty cool though if all insurers were like that coz then I'd be bolting up a GT lump straight away considering the insurance for a GT would actually be the exact same as it is for my 1.0 (yes I'm pissed off I didn't get a GT)

A coupe S engine is just a normal 1.3 engine - if the ranger was a 1.3 it'd be the same spec and the insurers wouldnt need to be informed,as its still standard spec. If the ranger was previously a 1.0,you'd just say it was a standard 1.3. You cant do this with a GT engine though,as its more powerful than a regular 1.3.
