Insurance for a modded car

Featured Replies

Been looking at getting myself a nice mk3 coupe GT for my first car and as much as they can look good standard, i wanted to do some stuff with it or buy a non-standard one to start with

What are the best/cheapest insurers to use for a modded car? Quinn Insurance gave me a great quote for a standard GT but not sure how good they are for mods?

Depends on your age and the area you live in to be honest just phone around

hey mate if you are over 19, then i would say get a quote off of Brentacre, they insure me, and they don't actually care about body mods like wheels suspension, etc you tell them so that they are covered but it don't cost any extra. And as for engine mods they give you a bhp limit so they know that i have a 1 litre shell with a gt conversion but they don't care as i have not exeeded the bhp limit and if you do want to then just ask for an increase and they will charge you extra but body mods are all at no extra cost.

A GT at 17?

I would try and get at least 1 years NCB, then you would be 18 as well. who knows, you might get insured then :)

Seriously though, your going to find it quite tough insuring it as a first car, even if it is TPFT you will probably end up paying out more than the car's value.

Dont really mind the insurance, can get TPFT for £1000 Quinn or £1300 on Kwikfit and thats only a quick internet quote

Have you tried Adrian Flux? They seem to be quite good for my mod'd G40 insurance.

Most people probably do pay more than the value of the car for their first years insurance. And a GT isn't that hard to insure for a first car, it's no faster than a 1.2 16v Corsa and there isn't exactly a shortage of them on the road is there? In fact, I'd say it's the most common first car.

HIC are very good for modded cars. Not really bothered about wheels sus0pension and stuff, as long as you tell them.
