Do I have to declare SORN?

Featured Replies

My MOT ran out and I'm fixing all the problems myself, but won't finish til after its run out of tax (runs out in 2 days). I know it's illegal not to display a valid tax disc, so what do I do? Declare SORN?

Indeed. I had a car parked on our private land (live on a farm) and spoke to the dvla about SORNing cars and they were actually quite nasty and told me if the car is not SORNed and I go to tax it agian, I could be liable for all the back tax.

You can do it online now as well, just need a reference from the V5C.

Right I think I'll SORN it just to be safe then. Only gonna be for a week but I'd rather not get a fine or anything I don't trust the DVLA one bit.

Wait, I just checked and I need to take it literally off the road? How do I do this without a driveway?!! There's literally nothing I can do but keep it parked on the road while I fix it...

this is what happened to me. with my mk2.

if its physically 'on the road' it needs tax.

if its only a week just tax it

I can't tax it without an MOT...

Get a lockup?

If you don't have tax or mot and the car is still on public highway, then its likely to get crushed. Best to find a mate with a big driveway/garden for tempory measure. Tow it there by the way!

oh shit errr no-one I know has a big driveway student housing is pretty limited. Guess I gotta find a lockup then..

Council round here offer garages for £6 a week.

I wasn't told there was any minimum contract either so I can only assume thre isn't.

At £6 a week though, its worth just having to keep shit in!

Yea I could apply but that would take a while. There's a waiting list according to the Warwick Disctrict Council :(

dvla don't make it easy do they.

edit: Sweet found a friend of a friend with a spacious drive alllll goood baby baby

That's alright then matey. The DVLA are pretty harsh when it comes to things like this, you won't get away with jack shite.

sorry to highjack the thead i lttile but how do you find out if the concil offers garages to rent?? possible to do online??

Hey mate I looked into it, go online to your council's website (Google it). Search for garages or look in the links or wherever. Should be able to find an application form which you have to mail off or deliver by hand, and then you'll be put on the waiting list. I didn't have time to do all this though...

Mine is also a little akward ............. MOT ran out but booked in this week, Tax ran out 31 May but as I have just brought the car I have no V5 yet..........

To re-tax the car can i take new MOT + Insurance + Green section of V5??or is there a form or am I stuck intil V5 received (no TAX reminder received)

Thanks

you can use the receipt part of the V5C that you should have got off the previous owner.

Ye got that - the green bit.

Just wasnt sure if that was acceptable......thanks, nice one
