brought it Sunday without drivers window working,fixed yesterday and put all back together today

closed door and locked car...happy bunny......went to get back in car and drivers door pin came up but couldn't get in??? Tried boot....OK, tried passenger side......OK, so my door is no OFFICIALLY locked shut with me having no way to open it. Pin all way up and neither inside nor outside handle opens the door.

Stripped down door(s) and compare the 2........took lock ect from passenger and studied it. disconnected the central locking pipe to play with the diaphram but still no joy........put passenger side back together and thats fine.

Pressed button by accident before managed to put central locking pipe back on drivers side and the pump in the boot went made for 5 mins.......couldn't stop it........started smoking so unplugged it and got it out to cool down.

In the end i put car in garage in pieces with the intention to either a) burn it, b) fix problem and start to enjoy it (preffered) or c) sell the f**king thing.

Now assuming need new central locking pump for MK5 + still cannot get in drivers door as locked and stuck closed.

MOT due Tuesday and TAX now.....PLEASE HELP

Ye I'm trying to source a pump.......is the mk5 fluid or air central locking does anyone know?

When I say garage i mean at the top of my drive not a garage being repaired.....the problem is I cant drive it

The drivers and passenger door handles and locks all work and open the door when closed no problem, but once the doors are locked and then I open them with the remoteor key to get back in the pins come up but the passenger door can only be opened from the outside and the drivers door will not open at all??????

It is really getting to me now.....may fix and sell and get another GTi as this one seems cursed......

Have you connected the interior handles correctly?

It sounds like a mechanical fault, as the pump seems to be controlling the outside handle locks.

Could you have bent anything when repairing the window?

Try a load of WD40 on the lock mech (in and out)to see if anything is seized.

mk5 are air pressured pumps. take it to a garage, probably wouldn't cost you more than 200 quid. Small price to pay when considering you wont have to look for another gti

Going to book it in to VW Birmingham next week - I have left it in the garage now for 5 days as was really doing my head in

I will get it sorted whether I sell it or not but bad things come in 3's ha ha

Whats next??? I am hoping for the best.......will update when sorted (hopefully)

G40 - Yes, I put everything back together perfectly..... I checked it and rechecked it....... I am completly baffled

maybe an intermittant problem with the outside door handle???

I have a central locking problem on my MK5 GTI.

If i press the remote button it disables the alarm and the pump runs for 30secs but the doors do not lock. I swapped the pump in the boot with one i new worked and i still had the same problem. I have checked the air pipe connection on the boot lock and the 2 door locks but everything seems fine.

Let me know if the garage sorts your problem.

finally had this sorted yesterday for £308 at B'ham VW......... 3 broken wires in door loom and an earth broken in A pillar socket

2 new window switches and all is now good - except they claim the drivers 'door motor'??? is failing once in 100 times but will get worse....

What is the drivers door locking motor?? I have had brand new lock fitted already and Central locking pump is now fine so not too sure what they on about...

wanted £72 for part + £85 to fit + VAT - so decided against it for the time being.....if it fails they can do it when i get my pecdal box done - when i can be a*s*d lol

I've been trying to figure this one out for ages and I think I've cracked it!

Inside the pump there is a circuit that connects when the air presure builds up enough to lock the doors and descreases to unlock them, this tells the pump when to stop.

If for some reason the presure doesn't build up enough to connect the circuit the pump will carry on working to try and do so, after 20 seconds or so an overide function kicks in which tells the pump to stop working. It will then decide to start working again the next day after it's reset itself.

Now this can be caused by a few things 1- A leak in the system (I checked this and found no leaks) 2-Your pump is on it's way out either from wear and tear or water can sometimes leak in through the rear light cluster although I think this was sorted out on the MK5's (I took my pump apart and could find nothink wrong with it) or 3-And this is the one that cured mine, I think the pump that VW uses, unless brand new, ain't up to the job of moving all the locks, I noticed that when I moved the pump around whilst it had stopped it started to work again so all I did was turn it upside down put it back and it's been fine ever since, I think it's able to get the presure through the pipes easier this way!
