that isnt plastic welding though, that is just getting two bits of plastic hot and mauling them together.

plastic welding done properly [or extrusion plastic welding] is done with a heating tool and you add plastic with a plastic welding rod.

the proper kit is pretty expensive.

yeah you won't be able to do it with a soldering iron

the proper kit is easy to use though :)

I've seen grry's work before and its spotless. Bumper on his mk2 goof looks top!

where do i get the plastic rods to use?

I've seen plastic welding kits (Sealey) in the back of demon thieves for £100 plus VAT i think you can also get packs of rods too

blow torch and a flat head screwdriver

: )

What kinda plastic are you trying to weld? If it is ABS, you can use lego bricks to "weld" Or just make a paste using acetone and black lego then create a shape using masking tape and fill. Remove the take and tidy up and you are done

bump any one know?

hey neal man hows it going

i used to plstic weld for a few months basically u need a sealey gun (a glorified ht air gun) whihc comes with a tacking nozzle and a welding nozzle. u use the flat tacking nozzle to tack the piece(s) together then change the tip over to a welding end and feed a length of plastic rod either ABS,polypropolene, polycarbonate or whatever it is past the end of the gun and into said recess/hole/crack.

its a fairly easy process but yeah the guns are about £180 and rod is fairly pricey as u usually have to buy a large roll of it say 100meters
