I've just acquired a new wiper relay for my car.

It's the one where you can set the interval of the intermittent wipers.

But I've got no idea where it goes!

Where are the relays on a Mk3? And does anyone know which one I have to change?

Just switch the intermittent wipers on,and everytime they activate,you'll hear the relay click. Should be behind the dash,passenger side,above the glovebox. Well,shouldnt be,because that could mean having to take the glovebox out. But its possible thats where it is.

Yep that. where it is and yes it is a pain in the arse having to take the shelf off. Unless you are really small and a contortionist !

Don't think I'll need to remove any of the dash if I squat on the floor with the door open. They're fairly easy to access, although I'm going to be working blind.

Do they just pop out?

Your so lucky, at 6'2" I HAD to take the shelf off, no way I could contort meself that way. Yes they just pull out no problem.

I would say that while your that close to them, get someone to operate the lever arm and see if you can hear it clicking.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's number 19, same as on a Golf. In which case it's the inner of the two relays, that's labelled 19. I can probably sort it in the car park in a mo.

I'm 5'8", I dunno how you fit in a Mk3! I whack my head on the sunroof if I go over bumps too fast!

I'm sure I had my relay out and it wasn't too hard to remove. I think it needs a bit of wiggling and swearing at and it should slide out?

It is indeed number 19 & no it shouldn't be a 'bastard' to get out. Should require a bit of a pull and there u go, pop in your 99 (preferably not one with a flake attached) and bobs your uncle!

What a piece of shit job. It was well and truly wedged in, I nearly gave up because the light was dying.

Luckily the pair of relays came off their bracket on the bodyshell, giving me proper access. If I'd known they came off so easily I would've done it in half the time.

But anyway, some careful but forceful prying with a screwdriver, a few more four letter words and bish bash bosh, one of the coolest mods I've done on my car. I love stuff which makes the car a little more user friendly and that's such a useful gadget.

It's a standard piece of VW kit, a programmable relay.

I think Maplin sell them too.

I fitted a Hella rain sensor in the Scirocco. Some say they're not great,but i liked it.

where abouts on the mk3 golf is the relay?

I don't know, if you're looking to nab one I haven't a clue where they are because I didn't take mine from a car. Better off asking on E38 or something.

It's fuse number 99 that you want, or at least it is on mine!
