salvaged gearbox

Featured Replies

Right i have managed to find a company that has two gearboxes with the code i need. The person on the end of the phone said that they are slightly different, one has two prongs and the other has three. Any ideas on where these prongs are? as i ideally want to get the right one delivered.

Cheers

Are they 4 speed?

No they are 5 speed for a Mk4 1.4.

The only thing I can think of that could be referred to as prongs are the gearbox mounting studs. These are only on the 4 speeds and the later boxes, mk3 Golf, only had 2 whereas the earlier ones, mk1 Golf, had 3.

Thanks, i had a look last night and can to the same conclusion.

After talking to the yard again they mean the linkage connection. Is it two cables or two cables and a rod. I had a quick look and it appears to be two rod like items. Are these Rods or just a very strong cable?

I personnally thought if i specified the gearbox code it identified that box and only that box, so the linkage should be the same?

Right ETKA says: Mk4 Gear Linkage comes in 2 types.

Either Cable linkage and Rod Linkage.

What year is the polo?

we always match the 3 letter code off the gearbox (or trans code from the white sticker in the boot) before selling a gearbox

there are variations even when the engine codes match
