oil level

Featured Replies

Hi Guys I'm new on this forum apologies if this problem has been dealt with before.

I have 1983 polo 1100cc and after draining the engine oil and replacing filter I fill with 3lt of oil. I run it for a couple mins then let the oil settle. When i check the level on the stick its a good bit higher than the top mark. The sump is not bashed in any way. Could it be the wrong dipstick fitted. Should I just go with what I put it in 3lt for sure.

Cheers Davy

3 litres sounds fine too me

I'm not sure what may have caused this but you have to be careful because with to much oil you can end up with the carnkshaft slaping the oil.

Most likely some of the old oil just didn't come out.

Drain it to the top mark.

I did drain it for a second time and left it draining for 15 mins. I then added oil to top of the stick and it took just over 2 litres. I will leave it at that and see how it gets on but I'm sure it could be the wrong dipstick for it as the sump is in perfect condition.

Thanks for your answers guys.
