i currently have a 1996 mk4 1 litre i look at getting a new engine i see the possibliltys(sp) being

1.6 8v(mk4)

1.4 16v(mk4)

1.6 16v(mk5)

in your opinion which would be the best?

for some reason I'm thinking tthe engine mounts are different in the 1 litre

what sort of price are they likely to come up at ?

how easy would they be to fit?

obviously the mk5 gti engine is more hassle

The 1600 8 valve would be the easiest but then again all the hard work to fit the gti lump would be worth it.

There's been a thread about this recently, have a look through the forum - it's a lot more complicated than just changing the head, from what I can gather.

Why would it be any easier putting the 8v in than the 1.4 16v?

that was what i was thinking lol

the only reason i put the 8v was because i thought they might be easyer to get hold of

Dave is yours a 1.6 8v yer? What does it feel like compaired with the 1.4 8v? Have you driven both? Does anyone know any difference, its not the bore size thats different is it.. its the stroke length?

just cos i think why go to the hassle of building something you can buy

assuming your car isn't too modified you should be able to change your parts over more easily than changing the engine

i think I'm going to wait n see what pops up at the time when I'm ready to do it
