I'm planning a custom ICE kit for my Mk4, but its gonna need space for an extra DIN head unit, so i was wondering, can the cubby hole below the heater controls be replaced to hold a standard sized headunit?

If so, will i need to buy some kind of fitting adapter, or will it 'just fit'?

For those who are curious, i'm gonna fit a motorized LCD monitor into the existing stereo slot, and a heavily customized* stereo unit below the heater controls

*by customized, i mean its the OEM stereo, gutted out, and fitted with a pc motherboard, hard drive, and slot load DVD drive

i've done exactly the same thing as what your thinking mate

you can just take out the blanking plates and electric window switches if you have them, an trim the plastic surround to DIN size

theres a big fuck off heater duct behind that tho so you'll have to cut that away, but that does mean when you have your heating on the head unit will get bloody hot, so your processor an hard drive etc will need ALOT of cooling
