Hi just bought a w reg gti and was wondering if anyone has put throttle bodies on if its possible would like to aim for 170bhp got 3k to spend Would thie power be achievable for that budget

Sounds about right, ITBs and a properly mappable ECU (emerald) along with some rolling road time would still leave you with change from £1500. Another £1000 or so on some decent cams and a bit of port matching and a 4 brancher I'd say 170 bhp isn't a problem. Not sure how far people have gone with the GTI lump!

seen one forsale on piston heads a couple of month ago with a supercharger, 150bhp alledgidally (sp).

I'd be pretty pissed off if a charged up 1.6 16v was only making 150 bhp... I think ITBs are the way to go with the GTI lump though!

Check the Polo Performance Parts section, currently a group buy on 16v cams. Throttle bodies do work well on these engines, and with some naughty cams and head work i think you'd crack 170bhp, would require lots of rpms though.

170 hp would be easily achievable with the right advice, do some research first then speak to a descent tuning company

if you are going to go to silly rpm's on these you will need to change the rockers for higher quality ones... you can get them from sorg motorsport in germany.
