i need a new clutch asap

Featured Replies

basically my clutch is dead.

how much from vag? any one know before i shit my pants at the dealers tomorrow.

and which other clutch fits??

not interested in uprated ones just normal ones.

I've heard a 16v mk4 clutch is good for the job but does anyone know the part number or owt cos i know for a fact that the thick c**ts at my gsf will get it wrong hence why i never give them anything harder than a bulb to sorce for me.

16v ones are about £90 from gsf. Not sure how much a dealer would charge!

which 16v one is it though seems from looking at the old threads it should be the early spec ones? how would i know the difference?

There's a nice Sachs organic clutch on eBeg.

Yeah i saw that!

Wish it had come up earlier!!

You can buy a standard valeo one i think from rally design, its about 80 quid posted i think?

Thats what I'm running atm, I'm going to burn out some clutches whilst perfecting the car, then ill uprate it.

well i had a feeling this thread would go 'uprated this and uprated that, I've got this and I've got that'. much like every other thread on a clutch for a g40.

all the AFH ones (mk4 16v) are the right centre spline

rallydesign sell valeo g40 clutches as well if you can hang on a few days for delivery.

http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/produ...oducts_id=10171

and there's that place pete was gonna do a group buy from. Forget the name but they're cheap!

thing is i need it for monday. online aint really an option really. never mind. ill sort it out tomorrow at vag or ecp or gsf.

VAG ones are exchange. I'm pretty sure ECP or GSF don't keep G40 ones in stock, I think they have to order them in. I would say they are pretty quick from Rally design from what I remeber.

well ecp list one but like everything on their site that i look at its out of stock. vag dont list a clutch 'kit' just seperate parts for the g40 'py' engine. and 2 pressure plates both 200mm

i expected it to be exchange but does anyone have any idea how a full set is from vag? actually has anyone ever bought a new one from vag?

clutch disc - luk = 320 0257 10 ... 200mm... ean 40 05108 18080 3.... 18,3X20,7 ...24teeth .. vag 030 141 031 G or H ..only for g40

pressure plate luk = 120 0193 10 ..200mm ean 40 0510821965 7 .. vag 030 141 025 C or S... used on seat 1.4 16vs and 8b 1.6s also vw caddy 1.4 16v and 1.6 8v, lupo 1.4 16v, polo 6n1 100bhp 1.4, 75bhp 1.6, 6n2 1.4 16vs, g40, etc etc

releaser - luk = 500 0311 10... ean 40 05108 05321 3... vag 085 141 165 C or E or H (same on lots of vws / seats)

luk complete clutch kit = 620 1811 00, contains all 3 clutch parts as above

clutch disc itself only thing specific to g40, other 2 parts of the 3 part clutch are used in a few diff cars!

dunno if this helps you or not??

from etka, clutch plate = b#030 141 031 GX ---- (PY ONLY)

pressure plate b>030 141 025S ==py only 200mm

pressure plate b#030 141 025CX ==py only 200mm not sure of differences?

release bearing b 085 141 165 H

well vag want 160 quid. so theres a definite answer seen as nobody else knew. euro car parts want 115 quid plus vat. still waiting on gsf to getback to me.

well suprisingly, GSF have been the best so far. 84.64 plus vat for a 200mm clutch kit listed for the g40 only. its a LUK one too so should be decent quality. I'm sure theres the 16valva one for a bit cheaper but as I'm not 100% sure which one it is I'm gonna stick with the one listed for the g40.

and they can get it in tomorrow. happy with that.

weird - the g40 one at gsf i was quoted £150+ not incl vat!!!

thats pretty good for the full kit

just realised your from sunderland, was up your way on saturday doing a course

SCHTOP!!!!!!!

I replaced my Clutch with a Valeo one and supplied Thrust bearing and in under a month the Thrust bearing was making horrible noises - making it sounds like it would blow up on idle...

GET A VAG THRUST BEARING and fit that with the Clutch plates to SAVE YOUR SANITY!

The whole box has to come off for this to be changed too - luckily for me i blew an 8P and my ATV came back from JP Race so i bought a VAG thrust bearing for the ATV fitting and VOILA - no noise / rattles - and is still going strong!

well its a LUK one from gsf and from ECP. strangely ECP want 115 quid plus vat! for the same product that gsf is charging 86 quid plus vat for??

dave my thrust bearing rattles like fuck anyway I've learnt to live with it so if the new one does it then i think i can live with it again lol

ECP reckon that LUK supply vw anyways??? anyways I'm gonna go with the gsf 200mm luk one for 86 quid. vw want 28 quid for the thrust bearing or there abouts which i simply cannot afford.

Sounds about right - i remember paying about £30 for my lone thrust bearing...

Sorry to use capitals but it is something i hate - thrust bearings rattling.... does my nut - plus if i went to buy a car and the Thrust bearing was rattling it could me mistaken for a knackered or shot bottom end bearing....on it's way out / dodgy g/box....

Just trying to keep the knowledge flowing!

well its funny you should say that. cos when i got the car back on the road we finished at about 11 at night and i went for an easy drive to try it out and stopped at a garage and could hear it rattling. first thoguhts were 'oh no the bottom end is still fucked'!!! that was until i pushed the clutch in and it went silent mines got worse though and i was half expecting the clutch to go. its been feeling down in power higher up the rev range were the revs have been climbing but with no 'pull'. then last night that was it. i cant really go above 3k cos thats mainly when the boost kicks in and the clutch looses it. if i press the accelerator gently the revs will climb and hold power but its takes ages to get there and any slight bit of agressive accelerating from there and it goes spaka! it was when i was overtaking on the motorway last night too on a hill. had to pull in behind which made me look a right turd lol

Sounds about right - i remember paying about £30 for my lone thrust bearing...

they are like £6.50 + vat arent they ????? or thats what i paid anyway

Mine wasn't - perhaps yours wasn't from VAG or for a G40...
