Mk4 1.6 CL

Featured Replies

I've been having a bit of trouble with the car, making a horrid noise when ever the engine was going, sounded like it was coming from the starter motor area, so i whopped it off to find most of the innards have gone kaboom.

(the spindle moves from side to side)

Anyhoo, not being all to fantastic with car pats and prices, could someone let me know a reasonable price to pay for:

A: A brand spanker - which ever make is cheapest?

B: A 2nd hand one, and wither or not its worth getting one.

Also, I've been looking on the net, through my logboog and found nothing that tells me the engine code.

Its a mk4 1998 1.6 CL.....am i right in thinking its a AEE?

Cheers

Rich

Yeah, they're currently at £65 according to their website. We bought a starter from GSF for my mates Golf, and it was a Bosch re-built one and it's been great. Bosch or VW's own would be the only ones I’d trust wholeheartedly. Second hand ones are OK to get you going again cheaply and quickly, but who's to say that within 12 months or so, that one wont go pop too.
