My fuel gauge (1.3 CL Mk3) is way out, tank is empty just below the "4" on the gauge.

Is it a common fault?

How hard is it to change the sender? Is it similar to a golf ie in the top of the tank under the rear seats?

The sender is underneath the rear seats under the black lid - it might be sticking or faulty?

I've ran out of petrol with a 1/4 tank showing, but also made it to the pumps with the needle almost all the way to the left of the red bit. Not accurate I'd say
