I am wondering, i have been told that engine chips are an effective way of increasing BHP and can increase my 1.2i polo 9n from 55ps to 62ps, does anyone know much about the side effects etc?? i would love to know before i do it

how much is that costing you?...is it worth it for 62ps?

7ps is plenty of power from just a chip

There is dozens of chips on ebay that will fit a polo 1.2 petrol, just type in polo performance and you can get chips for 99p and 3.50 etc, but it sounds to me that they might not be the best at that price,lol. I have decided i might now get a k&n air filter, any idea how much this would increase bhp by?

i think ^ big beatz you are on about those little resistors you put into the wiring that basically leavs your choke on doesnt really do anyhting for performance more on te damaging you are fuel econemy and over fueling the engine

the stuff u buy from dealers are basically a set of different maps and the amount u pay is because a bloke has sat on a rolling road bay with the car that you want to chip and played with the ECU maps, in which he changes the throttle angle and fuel,

it takes hours to find slightly better maps, and you are basicalyy doing the same when u have a total remap just a bloke sat on a rolling road.

so to conclude really all teh do is find problems with the standard map such as flat spots and improve on them to get read of the flat spots and sometimes increase power n torque by little amounts, thers always room to improve from manufacturers because they dont wants all out power they want a balance of fuel econemy and reliabilty.
