Hi all i really need some help..

i have a 1995 polo (mk4?) 1.6cl

a few months ago it had an idle problem where it would tick over fine then the revs would suddenly drop and the car would almost stall, after looking through here i saw it was a common problem normally caused by the TB

i took this off last week and cleaned it up with carb cleaner and i also changed the air filter i then re assembled everything but now the problem is different the idle is now to high and its searching around and revving itsself every 10seconds or so...!! any ideas?

i took is to a garage for them to sort it out, they changed the spark plugs and gave it new rotor arm as these were shot to bits, he also but it through the computer but it hasnt come up with any fault codes!

after 3-4 hours they still couldnt work out the problem so I've got the car back and have to run it until the problem gets worse so it can be pin pointed, otherwise it will have to go back in and have various bits changed to try and solve the problem which could obviously get very expensive.

have any of you got any ideas as what the cause could be? why its revving its self??

i was told its not the temp sender or crank sensor because they would of showed fault codes if it was them.

so any help PLEASE!

I had the same prob on mine, after cleaning the TB she woulr idle about 2500 rpm. VW mainstealer told me the throttle body was fubar'd and wanted to rip me off of £450.00, anyways, I replaced the temp sender and had the ECU reset by someone who had a VAG-COM, this did the trick (have since bought a VAG-COM cable for myself and a copy of the software). he also but it through the computer but it hasnt come up with any fault codes! the mainstealer did this, with the same result, no fault codes, only when the VAG-COM was used did it produce errors, VAG-COM is not used by mainstealers funnily.

Could poss be the TPS Throttle position sensor....which is part of the throttle body

is there anyway of reseting the ecu/throttlebody without using VAG-COM???, I've tryed disconnecting the battery overnight but had no joy

if anybody down near sussex has VAG.COM and they fancy reseting my ECU for me that would be appreciated.. give me a shout.
