As I was coming home from my mates last friday I heard a nasty "clanking" sound from what seemed to be the gear box. I was about 50 yards from home when the car started to judder and had a total loss of power. The car splurted most of her gear box oil all over the road and that was that. Shes now sitting in my drive and every time I look at it I feel sick! My babyy and I cant drive her! Mechanic says the Gear Box and Clutch are gone, but if I couple those with the car also needing a Control Idle Speed Valve its almost costing £500-550 to put right. (and thats with second hand parts from a scrappy) Which just isn't worth the £ as it was only valued at £1100.00

The PISSTAKE of the whole thing is that the car was provisionally sold to a guy from Woolwich who was coming on Saturday morning to collect it. Now what a way she had of saying she didnt want to leave!...By totally breaking down on me a DAY before!!!

If anyone knows of anyone selling a 1.6 GL (1999) Mark 4 Gearbox and Clutch pllllleaaaaaaase post back!

Or has any contacts or knows anyone who wants to buy this off me in the condition it is in.

Dont get me wrong I have thought about breaking her but I simply do not have the time and storage space to even think about that. But I know I'd make alot of the money back so if someone wants to offer me a decent price I'd be more than happy to unload her for someone else to do the breaking.

surely that cant be right, gearbox is on its way out in my 1600 mk4 scrappy quoted £60 for a good box and a clutch kit is around £90 for ther mk4 plus 4-5hours swapping surely not that costly, mk4s do seem to have rather soft gearboxes though as the guy in scrappy only has 1 box left out of 8 cars.

wow you guys must have some really good scrappy's up in Ireland!! I've been to 4 in London area already and cheapest I got was 250 for the Gearbox. not to mention the clutch!!
